Special Way to Tell DH

Just as the title says, I'm wondering if anyone has a special way of telling DH that you've had a positive test? It's early days but I've just had a definite second line on the test!

This will be our 3rd (and definitely final) baby. The first 2 pregnancies I found really really tough emotionally and so I'm determined this time not to allow it to effect me so much. I want to announce the news to DH in a really special way, to get this pregnancy off to the right start...

Any ideas???

I was decluttering the other day and found some TINY neutral newborn socks. Was thinking of leaving them on his pillow or something! But in reality I doubt I'll be able to hold it in...

That's a lovely idea. Yes, I'm struggling to contain it as well!

Stick a bun in your oven and ask him to get the dinner out of it lol see how long it takes for him to twig

I wish id had the patience for something like this. The reality was DH coming home for a coffee while I was still happily pacing about in excitement, so I just shoved the pregnancy test in his face and hopped about on the spot waiting for his reaction. The reaction? ‘I don’t know what any of these lines mean? Have you pissed on this???? What’s happening?’ with a rabbit-in-headlights expression. The poor sod had lost track of where we were in the cycle and thought I was already on my period, so was not expecting the news at all. Romantic, hey!

Just tell him. because, god forbid something bad happens whilst you’re procrastinating about tiny socks or pictures of small children etc, how hurt would he be that he didn’t even know you were pregnant in the first place?

@PotteringAlong that's a bit of a crappy thing to say! This is a positive post so try not to bring negativity.

Same way you found out, show him the test. Then you can do all the creative stuff like breaking the news to other people, sex reveal or whatever else is trendy atm

I will never understand these threads. He's your husband, the other parent, allegedly the closest person to you in the world, and this isn't an Instagram story. Why would you sit on the news to stage some sort of artificial cutesy scene? The words "I'm pregnant" or "it's positive" do the job perfectly.

My husband was away for work when I found out I was expecting DC2... I didn’t want to text him or tell him over the phone. I had 5 days to keep it to myself, I bought a tshirt that said “Baby XXX No 2 on the way” and wrapped it along with a fresh pregnancy test. I gave it him in the car on way home. He still wears the tshirt for bed and it’s like a lovely momento.

I was off in maternity leave when I found out about dc2- I nipped into town, bought a plain white t shirt in primark for dc1 and took it to the printer round the corner and got it screen printed with-

I’m going to be a big sister!

Cost a fiver all in and was done for when DH came home from work that evening to see dd wearing it. We also used it to tell our parents and it’s a nice keepsake, so even though it is 100% twee I’m glad I did it!

Pottering if my DP was hurt at that I'd tell him to jog on. But then he has asked me to make it a complete surprise

@BirthdayKake there is a store that screen prints tee shirts etc for schools and businesses in our city centre- a lot of independent photo printing businesses do it as well. Only took five minutes!

Does it need to be something which takes time / planning though?

Can you not have a nice meal this evening once kiddies in bed - get a nice non alcoholic drink or favourite dessert in and tell him?

I understand waiting a few hours etc if he is at work but never understood how woman can sleep at night in the same bed as husbands when they know but the husband doesn't.

@QueenAravisOfArchenland please get off your high horse. If this isn't something up your alley then keep it to yourself, no need for your comments, especially when I explained the reasons behind wanted to make it special. And why is it 'staged'? These are memories we'll look back on forever.

Anyway, as it happens I couldn't keep it to myself for any longer so wrapped up the pregnancy test as a present and handed it to him. I wasn't 100% sure how he would react to number 3 however he's on a high all day now so all good :)

@Patienceofatoddler congrats :). What will your age gaps be? I'm a bit nervous about having 3!

I was nervous about having three, but now when there's three DC in the house it's a doddle (I have four!).

@kettleonplease eldest is 3.5years and youngest 2 last week.

When youngest arrives at Christmas we will have newborn 2 years 4 months and just turned 4 year old the month before

I would have preferred a smaller age gap like between 1 and 2 but just wasn't meant to be.

Congrats to you and it's sounds lovely how you told hubby.

Kettle, my age gaps are almost exactly the same and my youngest is now 18 months. It’s bonksrs, but fine!

My DD1 will be 3 and 4 months and my DD2 will be 20 months. I'm thinking it will be chaos for the first few years!

I gave my DH a mug which said I'm pregnant at the bottom - I ordered the mug when we started TTC so had it for when I got the BFP ... unfortunately he didn't actually finish his drink!! I also got him a congratulations on your new job card ... husband to Daddy ... eventually we got there and he was delighted!

I'm going to openly let work know next week and kind of dreading it as it's driving me mad already but at 18 weeks I'm starting to show
