Did I have a miscarriage?

On Friday 27th July I was at work and suddenly felt as though I’d wet myself. When I went to the toilet there was bright red watery blood coming out and it had soaked the pad. This was a week before my period was due.

Over the next couple of days I had black discharge and blood clots. On the Sunday I did a urine pregnancy test and it was negative. I went back to work on Monday but realised that I felt exhausted. The rest of the the week I was so fatigued I could barely make it up the stairs, so was off work. Am back on a phased return this week. I’ve never known fatigue like it. I was also having quite disturbing dreams, and it’s taken 10 days for the bleeding to stop.

My GP suspects an early miscarriage. The blood test was done exactly a week later (Friday 3rd August) and my hcb level was 2.

When I phoned in for the results they just said no further follow up needed, but I really felt I needed confirmation that it was a miscarriage so I can move on from it.

Do you think this sounds like a miscarriage? I’ve been on the pill for 9 years but it’s certainly possible I might have missed a day here and there in recent months.

I'm pretty sure I had an early miscarriage when still on the pill. It wasn't like a normal period at all. I worry about it less than I used to as now I have DD. Still you definitely deserve some tlc and Flowers

It could have been but comparing it to mine (mc at 8 weeks) I would say it definitely doesn't sound like a mc after 6 weeks. By 7 weeks there is quite a big lump of tissue to pass which you would definitely have noticed (about the size of large grape). Also you'd still be getting positive pregnancy tests for some time after.
There's a chance it was a very early loss which is called a chemical pregnancy. Did you miss your last period?

I had light bleeding last month that lasted a few days.

Ive estimated that if it was, it would either have been 2 weeks or 5 weeks.

My Dr told me after I had a miscarriage that a pregnancy test would still test positive for a while after, I was about 10 weeks I'm not sure what would happen if it was earlier. It was pretty painful I remember. Hope you are ok OP Flowers

A HCG level of 2 is normal for a none pregnant woman (anything up to 5 is normal) so unfortunately you are not pregnant. If you had a positive test then you have had a miscarriage unfortunately.

As pp suggested it sounds like you may have had a chemical pregnancy - I have had one of these and though not exactly what you had described it is similar.

I got a positive pregnancy test before my period was due and then a couple of days later I got a negative test and then started bleeding the day after that so it is entirely possible that you were pregnant (very early days) and if it was a chemical you wouldn't have gotten a positive pregnancy test then. I had bloods taken whilst I was still bleeding which the hcg level was 9 but it dropped very quickly. Thanks

It was a complete shock because I hadn’t even suspected pregnancy, so I hadn’t done a test before it happened (not planned). However I’ve never experienced that type of fatigue and continuous bleeding before with a period. And I felt really weird emotionally. The fatigue was so intense and I’m still not back to my old self yet.
