Pregnant after Morning after pill???

Hey everyone. I'm new on here but looking for some advice/ reassurance. I recently got my implant out as it was having some unbearable side effects and my partner and I had split since I got it in. Within 2 weeks of getting it out we got back together and one night our condom split. Since I has resigned myself to getting the morning after pill first thing in the morn we had unprotected sex several times (damn you gin!) I got the MAP within 9 hours of the first unprotected time and had no immediate side effects. My hormones had been out of whack anyway since having the implant removed so the morning after pill made me even worse for a few days. 5 days after taking it I had some mild cramping and thought it was AF but only got some very watery red/spotting which lasted 2 days but wasn't every time I wiped therefore was very light. I have zero other symptoms now....I have taken the morning after pill twice before and always got a period straight away. However the implant had stopped my period so I haven't had a proper one in 8 months. I did however have some mild bleeding in the days before my unprotected sex. Since I have no idea where I am in cycle I have no idea when I should test. It has been a week since the morning after pill....when should I worry about the lack of AF. I am already fairly worried....this relationship is not stable and I already have a son. Thanks

MAP isn't 100%! Test now and every 3 days for the next 3 weeks then call GP if symptoms still there x

PinkAvocado · 04/08/2018 11:52

My cycles weren’t regular after having the implant put and I’d get watery short type periods so it may be that but definitely test.

Juddersee · 04/08/2018 11:55

Thank you both. I thought it was too early to test as it has only been a week but I will try tomorrow

It is to early, if you took the pill the day after unprotected sex. You need to wait at least 12-14 days realistically. Some early detection tests might pick it up sooner if you are but I'd wait it out if you can.

Ok got a bfn with fmu today on day 11 after unprotected sex. Will try again in few days but it was a very sensitive test and a firm bfn

Still no period or symptoms other than Carpal tunnel which I've only had late in my 1st pregnancy. Also my breasts are swollen and sore but again that could be hormones. Tested again yest and was neg. I know levonelle can delay periods of bring it on sooner but for me it had always brought my period on within a few days. Not this time. Hoping period will just come soon xx

I wouldn’t worry. Having implants out etc can cause a side effect of pregnancy style symptoms. Just check in another 7 days with another test

beccii161016 · 13/08/2018 14:59

I've taken the MAP once and my cycle was knocked out of whack. Plus you've had your implant out so that could definitely be why AF hasn't arrived yet.

Implantation can take up to 10 days so it could be another week or so before you'd get a positive if you are pregnant.

Good luck x

Juddersee · 13/08/2018 15:26

Well it has been 16 days since the unprotected sex incident....if implantation can take 10 days how long then until I should I test? I'm pretty sure all is fine it's just I had a few days pink/ Brown spotting in the week after sex which I had once and it turned out to be implantation. But it's prob my hormones just all over the place xx

You can test now OP, good luck!

SinkGirl · 13/08/2018 15:49

After I stopped the depo injection it took the three months that the jab should work for plus another nine months for my periods to return. I’m sure it’s probably fine but I’d do another test in a week to be sure

LifeOfRiley63 · 13/08/2018 16:52

I got pregnant after taking the MAP less than 24 hours after. Sad

Smellbellina · 13/08/2018 16:57

So did I Riley I think it doesn’t work if yiu’ve Already ovulated

Juddersee · 14/08/2018 13:11

Tested last night and got a very very very faint line.....I almost didn't see it but was walking past window and sun hit it lol. Tried again with another internet sensitive cheapie today with fmu and not even a hint of a line. Bit confused. Period has never taken this long to come after MAP but I'm sure it must be on it's way as in my previous pregnancies I've got my bfp very early. My sis however got pregnant after MAP and had to go for an early scan in case it was ectopic as that is a risk with levonelle. Would an ectopic pregnancy be detectable by test in the same timeframe as a normal pregnancy? Xx

beccii161016 · 14/08/2018 14:50

I'm unsure about the ectopic factor but if you've had even the faintest positive it may be worth using a first response test with FMU. They're a bit pricier but they're very sensitive and detect early.

Karigan198 · 14/08/2018 15:15

No ectopic you could have a negative test even. But have you any signs of that??? Any discomfort or shoulder pain?

Juddersee · 14/08/2018 15:25

Very hard to tell as I have now got Carpal tunnel in my wrist so it's making my entire arm / shoulder ache from holding it funny. But no other symptoms...no sharp pains etc.

OP posts:
olderthanyouthink · 14/08/2018 17:45

I'm currently pregnant after taking levonelle (twice within a week less than 24hrs after the accident), don't know about increased risk of ectopic... not sure if I even told a HCP that I had taken in now that I think about it. Baby is safe and fine and in the right place anyway in my case.

Try and get a first response early response and do it tomorrow morning. I hope you get the result you want 🤞

Juddersee · 14/08/2018 20:20

Will try first response in a few days. Thank you all for taking the time to reply xxx

Did you get your FRER OP?

Juddersee · 16/08/2018 20:32

My friend is bringing me one over this evening although I will prob wait until morning to do it. I am very nervous despite having several bfn. I'm constantly checking for AF!! Xx

OP posts:
Beautifulblue · 16/08/2018 21:33

I'm sure it'll be fine, best of luck!

Juddersee · 16/08/2018 21:42

Thank you very much xx

Well after 3 evenings of nausea I was completely terrified to take the first response this morning. But it was a BFN. It's now been almost 3 weeks since the sex/levonelle so a pregnancy would definitely show up by now....especially for me as I have had previous positive 5 days before AF was due. So that should be the end of that. But j just don't feel "right" I should be relieved and moving on but I just have this feeling like period is not coming any time soon. I need to just forget all about it as it's likely to come in the next few weeks. Sorry for the essay....i guess i just can't allow myself to relax until I get my period xxx

Gosh it must be a really confusing time for you! I know it's easier said than done but try to relax for the next couple of weeks. You've had a lot of hormonal changes in your body with the contraception changes. It's likely you've just knocked your cycle out of whack a little. If there's still no sign in a week or two maybe go and see your GP just for some reassurance!
