Hey! I have a 1yr old son and i'd love to try for another baby..
I am still breastfeeding him pretty regularly.. 3/4ish times a day and numerous time during the night.
Also i havent really had a period yet.. i have had little bits of spotting but v irregular.

Is it possible? Or likely?
And does anyone have any advice?
Also is anyone else trying whilst breastfeeding?

Tried to look on the conception board at things but all the acronyms are confusing me lol..

Thanks

Sorry but the bad news is that it’s possible, but not very likely. Constant feeding suppresses ovulation, especially night time feeding.

Personally I didn’t even have a period until a month after I stopped feeding completely. It’s different for everyone.

Fair enough! Yea i had read it helps if you cut a feed but i just feed to get back to sleep quicker really! Not in a rush really so will just see how it goes!
Thanks

I got pregnant while still bf my ds who was 2. He was still feeding pretty regularly! Good luck.

I got pregnant when my DS was 14 months and he BF night and day but my periods had come back at about 10 months... used cheapo ovulation sticks.

I got pregnant while breastfeeding, my son was 8 months and still feeding hourly through the night. My period had come back when he was about 5 months albeit very irregularly.

You'll get a mixed bag of responses. Certainly possible, but impossible to know how easy it will be for you. We tried to fall pregnant for 8 months while breastfeeding my son. I took hundreds of opks in the hope I'd catch the first egg. Of course with hindsight I wish I hadn't bothered with all that. My period didn't return until 4 weeks after I stopped completely.

Now, it could be totally different for you! And I hope it is. But my suggestion would be don't obsess over it if you're periods haven't returned, as you may be in for a long wait. I'm now only on cycle 5 TTC but it's been over a year "trying".

The average period comes back between 1-2 years if still breastfeeding.
As far as I understand, whilst a say 6 months it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll be fertile at day 2 or 3 years it’s pretty unlikely that you won’t be fertile.
I expect most people who say they had to wean weaned sometime before they would have returned to fertility anyway.

They say if you can go 6 hours without feeding regularly although for me this took 6 months (I was back at work so regularly going 9-11 hours), my period came back at 19 months. This is quite average I think (so I could well have weaned at say 14 months thinking it wasn’t going to come back).

Since then I’ve been having regular cycles. I got pregnant straight away but MC but I think clearly I did ovulate and my body was ready to support a pregnant, just sadly it wasn’t viable.

Also to add we did “try” from a year the same as you and I took random OPKs but I wasn’t ovulating and I would suggest just waiting for that first period as you could be taking OPKs every day for months otherwise.
Kellymom has some really good stats on fertility and breastfeeding.

Thanks for the responses. Guess ill just wait and see! Im not ready to wean him yet so it may have to wait lol.
