Implantation or first post pregnancy period?

So I'm about ten months post partum with my second child - no period between my last two pregnancies and I've exclusively breastfed, so I haven't yet had a proper period since conceiving my first.

Husband and I would like a third, so haven't used contraception. Pretty sure I ovulated 8/9 days ago - no opks or bbts, but cm, cervical position and general feeling all point to it. My luteal phase before pregnancy was 12 days.

Since Monday (6dpo) I've been having very light spotting, mostly only when I wipe but occasionally on a pad. It's almost all been varying shades of brown, with a couple of pink to red spots. Not getting any heavier but not going away either.

A normal period I would have expected to start light and pink, get pretty heavy and very red over the next couple of days and be almost over by now. Could the first post partum period be this different? Would love to hear any experiences of first pp period or implantation bleeding from anyone who's experienced either.

Could be either (sorry)

Thanks kitkatsky I know, and realistically it's probably the first period and I was out on my ovulation date . . . But I just wish it would either get going properly or go away completely. This inbetween could be maybe is driving me mad 🤦‍♀️

Not trying to be mean, but every month we all do this between actual periods and hoping to be preg. I hope for your sake you are, just it's tricky to say from some kind of something bleeding etc

kitkatsky · 19/07/2018 21:55

Ps seriously my first PP bleed was browner and heavier than pre preg

Thanks again. I know no one can say, I have to wait for a proper flow or a positive test, I was just interested in other people's experiences. Not knowing what to expect from a post partum period makes it feel a lot harder (though of course everyone's different and no one can say what mine will be like either! Sigh 🤷‍♀️)

My periods returned when my DD was about 10 months & she was also exclusively breast fed, the first one was totally normal & as expected but the second one was very light started off pink then brown but never heavy or red lasted 4-5 days. So I have experienced a period like that PP... hope you get what you want OP! I must add you're very brave going for #3 so soon! I just found out I'm pregnant with #2 & my DD is just 1 I'm shitting myself!! Grin

So update for anyone interested and/or experiencing similar - bleeding stopped completely not long after posting this, so bled from about 6-9DPO. After three days of extremely faint lines on ICs, took an FRER today and . . . BFP! So looks like it was implantation bleeding for me, though obviously very early days so still not a guaranteed viable pregnancy.

beautifulblue, you will be fine, it's hard and sometimes feels impossible but at the same time not always as hard as I expected and seeing them play together already is incredible. We must be mad going for DC3 already - in fact we've had long talks about whether it's a stupid thing to do - but we only can afford want three and after the first two ended up so close, didn't want a big gap before the last. So it was soon or never - and looks like it might be even sooner . . .!
