Anyone else struggling with long cycles? I have little hope left now and it's starting to bother me 😩

doctor says nothing they can do, eat healthy avoid junk food and dtd 2 to 3 times a week, we already eat healthily & generally have sex 6 days out of 7!

I had long cycles, last one was 56 days. 🙄Started taking Inositol and cut my cycles down to 30days, which is my shortest ever!
Now spreading the word as I know how frustrating it is to have such long cycles!
If you're interested in trying it I got mine from Myprotein website and worked up to taking 4g a day split into two (or 2tsp 2x daily).
Good luck 🤞🏻

This is me too... My GP ran tests and said that my hormones were fine, it was just the way I was Hmm

I ended up using OPKs when ttc, it was the only way I'd have any indication as to when I'd ovulate, I've never had ovulation pain, I'd get EWCM some months but not others etc.
I just bought the cheapy ones from amazon given that I was using pretty much an entire packet per month! Good luck 🍀

Coconutty89 · 18/07/2018 18:26

thanks both!

I use OPKs too but I just find I stress myself out so much with them. I'm trying the relaxed approach now but it isn't half frustrating x

just to add a glimmer of hope I have long cycles 50ish days and now have 2 kids

stellarfox · 18/07/2018 18:28

Hey I came off the pill last Sept and my cycles were around 35 days for a few months but last cycle it was 56 and this cycle I am on day 69 :( It is so frustrating! I just wish we could have normal cycles and join the two week wait threads each month but its so hard to know when you are ovulating... even with the opks I think my body tries to ovulate a few times during my cycle so the opks go darker and lighter a lot.

I might research that inositol. I have just had bloods done to check hormones but not had results back yet. Have you guys had ultrasounds? My dr has recommended me to get one

FlapJackered · 18/07/2018 20:04

@stellarfox that's so weird, you could be me! My first few off the pill were 35 then went up to 56. Then went on the inositol and it seems to have sorted it all out! 🤞🏻 I hope it continues, but it is looking good!
I feel your pain and know how frustrating it is having those long cycles.
I have blood tests booked for next week but it looks like I have sorted it out with the inositol.
Good luck with the results.

i had my blood tests done back in April and they were all normal! so annoying x

@FlapJackered I just got my blood test results back and everything was normal except my testosterone levels are elevated. I googled the inositol you are taking and it says it helps lower testosterone levels. From reading about PCOS it looks like higher testosterone levels stops you ovulating regularly.

I wonder whether you have had elevated testosterone levels too but the inositol has lowered this? Let me know what your bloods show!

I don’t know whether to buy that inositol or wait to talk to my doctor about it... I’m tempted to try it! My cycles started getting longer after I came off pregnacare so I went back on that to see if it helped but it hasn’t yet.

@Coconutty89 can you get another opinion from a different doctor? My doctor said I could get an ultrasound to look for PCOS

Rmad6716 · 20/07/2018 12:20

@Coconutty89 do you know exactly what tests the docs did?

A locum doc told me that she ordered PCOS tests for me, I subsequently had them done and was then told I didn't have PCOS. Another doc seen me afterwards and suggested PCOS so I explained I had been tested and I didn't have it so she checked and told me the wrong ones had been done. Fast forward a couple months and the correct ones are back which raised androgens.

Also you actually don't have to have a positive blood test for PCOS if you have cysts on your ovaries and irregular periods and vice Versa with positive bloods and no cysts.

I went years of being told I 'categorically didn't have PCOS because I'm not overweight!'. Doc actually said they wouldn't even test me 4 years ago! Lol

Good luck and be persistent as other posters have said. You know your own body! X

Rmad6716 · 20/07/2018 12:25

@stellarfox elevated testosterone would point to PCOS I'm sure?

Mine was higher and also anderostendione also. It's such a minefield trying to pinpoint a cause!

stellarfox · 20/07/2018 17:50

@Rmad6716 yes I think it’s likely I have PCOS after hearing that!

@FlapJackered I’ve ordered the inositol next day delivery :) so fingers crossed it will help and thanks so much for the advice!

FlapJackered · 20/07/2018 19:00

@stellarfox good luck with it, I hope it proves as successful for you as it has been for me!Just remember to ignore the back and take 4g a day. I would start with half that though and work it up. At the beginning I felt quite sick and had headaches, but I think I had too much to start. If you feel bad I would just start taking less and build it up. Try and stick with it though as once your body gets used to it any side effects disappear.
