What can I expect to see on a scan at seven weeks?

Hi everyone!

My first pregnancy sadly ended in a missed miscarriage back in April. I was supposed to be 12 weeks but a scan revealed the pregnancy hadn't developed past six weeks. I had to have a D&C and it was a horrific experience both mentally and physically.

Two weeks ago (June 26th) I discovered I was pregnant again. I'm delighted but also terrified of another loss. I'm currently almost six weeks.

In order to assuage some of my anxiety I've booked an early scan for the 24th of July. I should be 7 weeks and 1 day according to my last period, though I know dates can vary.

I've never had a scan this early before, so....

People who have been pregnant/have had early scans.... what can I expect to see on an ultrasound at seven weeks? Will I be able to see bean's heartbeat? I'm terrified it'll end up like the last one and all I'll see is an empty sac... 😞

For me the baby looked like a blob! There was a flashing white dot that was the heartbeat

To us at 6 weeks, they looked like jelly babies (with a vaginal scan)

@cobaltrose I too had an MMC and D&C in April what I noticed about my scan (when I found out about the MMC at 11 weeks 5 days) was that the sack was so much bigger than the baby. With my successful pregnancy I had a scan at a slightly earlier time 10.5 weeks and the baby seemed to be in proportion to the sack. I'm not sure if this is a timing thing or that this was indicative of whether mc or not but I could tell straight away with my second it wasn't right. Huge congratulations with the BFP and best of luck with the scan, I hope it is the most joyous experience, I'm sure it will be.

There are some apps that have pics of what you can expect or you could google images I'm sure. Best of luck.

This was my son at approx 8weeks. You should see the heartbeat flickering too 🙂
I just wanted to say don't panic if they say baby is measuring 5 or so days behind. It's super hard to accurately date at this stage. My early scans (8w and 11w) measured behind both times and then at 13 week nhs scan he measured a couple days ahead! So it doesn't mean any things wrong 🙂

You'll see a little jelly bean and a circle next to it. Jelly bean is baby, the circle is the yolk sac. Also, there's a good chance of seeing a heartbeat flickering too. I had an early scan a couple weeks ago as also had a miscarriage (in Feb) so reassuring, and pretty amazing to think a different heart is beating inside of me and inside this tiny creature

At 8 weeks mine looked like a tiny bear, shirt arms and legs sticking out a round shape. It was adorablely odd. (Arm and leg buds)
At 7 weeks, I expect (I’m guessing) it will be more round shape and slightly less arms and legs.
