Hi ladies
Looking for any advice from ladies who have conceived whilst still breastfeeding. How long did it take/how old was your little one? Was your little one still feeding in the night? Had your period returned? Etc.
TIA

Can't give advice I'm afraid, but wanted to bump your thread, and also couldn't resist pointing out the hilarious (and accurate!) typo in your title!

Not trying for number 2 yet, but periods returned at 18months. DD still feeds at night and frequently during the day. Pretty sure the return of cycles was caused by sudden change in feeding patterns - I normally work 2 days a week, I had one week where I had to work 4, and bam, periods came back. Think my first cycle was anovulatory, but since then although I don't know for definite everything is following the patterns I watched when I was ttc before.

There is another thread for women trying to conceive while breastfeeding, there's lots of advice on there.

Kellymom website is an amazing source of information on such things and has all the stats.

😂 thank you had not noticed the typo 🤦🏼‍♀️.
Will have a look for the other threads thank you . ☺️

I conceived my second child (accidentally!) whilst still breastfeeding. Periods came back at 6 months, it wasn't a proper period though. It took a couple of months to settle back into a normal cycle. I'd had 2 perfect 28 day cycles and sooo in my infinite wisdom decided it was safe to have sex as my period was due the following day and I could feel it "brewing". Anyway I ovulated 2 weeks late, I was ovulating not getting my period. My eldest child was 18 months old when our second arrived. The first child had started to ish sleep through when my periods returned. When my period didn't show up I was convinced (via reading stuff on here) that the breastfeeding had stopped my periods again! Took a while for the penny to drop.

It's very possible to get pregnant still breastfeeding, but I think it'd be harder to work out when you are ovulating if you aren't having regular periods. Well, I thought I was having regular periods, but I clearly wasn't!

Im still bf my 10month old. My periods havent returned yet. Havent ovulated yet either. Im ttc aswell.

willisurvive3under2 · 10/07/2018 23:14

I was still BF my first DS aged 12 months when I got pregnant. My periods had returned in May (when he night weaned), I got pregnant in August. It was twins!! Shock

Snowysky20009 · 11/07/2018 00:12

I fell pregnant whilst ds1 was 7 weeks old. Was also on the mini pill too.

Thank you ladies. My little one is nearly 8months and has started to reduce her night feedings - which is great for our sleep (still up in the night though).
We would ideally like a small age gap circa. 18months but I'm not going to wean my DD just to make that happen. I guess what will be will be - though I'm hoping that reduced night feeds will be enough to trigger my body to ovulate again.

Wow Snowy that must have been a surprise... I hope it all worked out well Smile

I did not get pregnant until I stopped completely. 28 days after stopping my period returned and the next month I got pregnant.

I fed for 2 years and the final months it was 1 feed a day, but my period still didn't return.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 11/07/2018 12:39

My periods returned at 9.5 months when he started eating more solids and as far as I can tell I was immediately fertile and regular, although we didn't ttc until he was 2 (and still feeding morning/night). Conceived straight away. It's very individual though, some people return to full fertility while EBF a tiny baby and some have to wean completely to conceive. All you can really do is give it a try and, if it isn't happening, consider what you're willing to do by way of reducing feeds/night weaning/weaning totally.

Esspee · 11/07/2018 12:52

My periods hadn't returned and we wanted a two year gap so I was advised to stop. Baby was 14 months and only nursing to get to sleep and during the night if he woke. It was hard to stop but my husband did all the comforting for about a week. One month later period returned, next month I was pregnant.
Good luck.

Wagtail89 · 11/07/2018 13:59

Thank you ladies. That's useful to know.

I think regardless I will keep feeding until she is 12months then have another think if we still haven't conceived number 2. ☺️

Have a look at Kellymom and laleche websites if you want more ideas on maximising fertility while breastfeeding. Most sources seem to say that a sudden change is most likely to trigger period return.

A friend of mine tried the following (but I'd be wary of doing this without speaking to GP first): she had a packet of pill left from pre-baby that hadn't expired. She took it for one month and then stopped, and that was sufficient to trigger return of cycles. She breastfed through that time, however she said she think her supply was less and her baby didn't seem as happy feeding as usual. Personally, I wouldn't try this.

Bubblemumma1 · 11/07/2018 17:05

I have a 2 year age gap and my second was conceived whilst I was breastfeeding my first. I didn’t reduce feeds at all. My periods returned after 7months and were extremely irregular. I used OPKs (had a lot of annovulatory cycles) and fell pregnant in our first month of TTC.

I’m currently tandem feeding and have no idea whether I’m ovulating or not.

Kintan · 11/07/2018 20:18

I conceived while breastfeeding. It took about 8 months. Sadly ended in a miscarriage at 9 weeks, but obvs that was nothing to do with breastfeeding, just bad luck!

Wagtail89 · 19/07/2018 18:48

Kintan - sorry for your loss Flowers.
Thank you for your response. No sign of my cycles returning yet just hoping they will soon.
Thank you all for your responses.
