TTC after mc - how long do we wait....

DollyDaydreamz · 10/07/2018 11:18

Hello all,

Coming to terms with mc at 9 weeks after TTC 2nd DC for 7months. Just wondering how long people have waited before TTC again? Any tips for TTC after a loss? After 7months TTC I feel like I have tried it all (SMEP, OPK testing, conceive + and even acupuncture!) but I’m willing to try anything...

My first DD was born at 32weeks after PPROM and ECS. I’m desperate for second child and beginning to feel I’m never going to have a “normal healthy pregnancy”

Maybe it’s just the grief but it’s all feeling a little hopeless right now. 😩

Dolly - so sorry for your loss. I just had a miscarriage at 8 weeks after TTC DC2 for 6 months, so similar circumstances. Like you I want to try again as soon as possible.

I think you can try again as soon as you stop bleeding. It'll be hard to predict when you'll ovulate. In theory you should get AF after 4-6 weeks so you'd ovulate 2-4 weeks after miscarriage depending on your usual cycle. However, it's prob best to wait until you get a negative HPT as otherwise you may drive yourself insane trying to work out if it's a new positive or the old HCG in your system.

Likewise OPKs may test positive because of HCG in your system.

Personally I'm still testing positive 2.5 weeks after. I'm now having my HCG tracked by my GP. It was still 250 after 2 weeks. If you're impatient and like stats you may want to ask your GP to do the same.

Best of luck for next time.

@wouldthatbeworse sorry to hear about your loss too 💐 It’s so hard after TTC for what felt like a lifetime (even though I’m fully aware 7months isn’t that long!) - every month with no BFP is excruciating!

We fell second cycle with our DD so this is all new to me. 😩 Now I’m starting to stress about age gaps getting even bigger as my little one will be 3 in November...

Thank you for responding and I wish you well with TTC again and good to know about asking GP to track HCG levels - I’m totally with you on the stats!

The consultant told me to wait one, preferably two cycles to allow inflammation in the uterus to heal. I waited two to be safe...now on 3 as it didn’t work this cycle but I’m glad I waited - want to have the best possible chance this time around. Good luck x

I hadn't a natural miscarriage at 8 weeks and was told there was no need to wait. Not sure if it's different if you had to have any medical help with the mc.

As precious posters have said you're cycle may be a little unpredictable and longer than normal. Get some cheap pg tests to make sure the hormone is iutnof your system (mine was bfn by cd 16) and then you can start tracking ovulation.

I conceived on the third cycle post mc after a year of trying before so it can happen quicker afterwards.

An mc is heartbreaking so take time to grieve and good luck with your future ttc journey! Wishing you and the other posters sticky bfps soon Flowers

@melamine and @BoBo90 thanks for the replies ladies. Annoyingly I don’t get my EPU scan to confirm mc till this afternoon. Mc started Monday first thing - what an agonising wait! I know in my heart that I have mc but somehow my head and body can’t compute till after scan (most frustrating of all is that morning sickness still here😩)

Sorry to hear about your losses and good luck with TTC / future pregnancies x

BoBo90 · 11/07/2018 09:49

That's positive about the morning sickness!

If you haven't passed a large lump of tissue (sorry unpleasant I know) then you could still have a sticky little bean in there 🙂
Fx it's just a bit of normal bleeding and nothing more! Please let us know how you get on xx

DollyDaydreamz · 11/07/2018 16:16

Well things went as badly as they could at EPAU scan - showed that gestational sac and yolk sac but nothing else. ie mmc at approx 6weeks (they cannot say this as they need confirmation from second scan but I know what it means!) So although pregnancy isn’t viable I haven’t actually miscarried yet 😢 I was kinda hoping that was all done (what with the bleeds I have already had) but now another two week wait before re scan and medical intervention! 😩 Feeling sad n blue.

I'm so sorry Dolly 😔 Take it easy the next two weeks and lots of cuddles with your dp. In the nicest way I hope you miscarry fully in the next few days and don't need the intervention and can come to terms with your loss and continue your ttc journey.

Wishing you all the best xx

wouldthatbeworse · 11/07/2018 19:34

Dolly - I'm so sorry. The limbo is awful. Has the heartbeat gone? If yes then a 2 week wait for confirmation scan and medical intervention (if that was what you want) seems unduly long. I really wanted to bring my MC to an end so opted for an MVA. It was quick but horrendous. Happy to talk about it if helpful.

One a more positive note I've become much more relaxed about sibling age gaps since my MC. There are loads of lovely posts on MN about people who are happy with their 3/4/5/+ year age gaps. Turns out people just love their kids whenever they come!

Wishing you all the best at this horrible time. x

Rozzzzzalmost35 · 11/07/2018 20:11

So sorry to hear about this. I had a mc at 8/9 weeks last February and I am currently sitting feeding my nearly six month old baby. We were the same as you and conceived first time with DC1 and over a year for DC2. We didn't wait at all and had mc mid February and bfp mid May 2017. Good luck to you xx

Kintan · 11/07/2018 21:13

I just had a 9 week loss (natural miscarriage) last weekend, and we are planning to try again asap. Just ordered a pack of 100 opks and will start testing twice per day as soon as the bleeding stops. Good luck to all of us who find ourselves in this horrible position xx

Megs87 · 11/07/2018 22:20

@Dollydaydreamz so sorry for your loss. Sending hugs XXX

I had a missed MC after over a year of trying. I had to have the tablet as I didn't MC naturally. As for TTC it completely depends on when you feel ready, I was advised to at least wait 1 cycle. I fell pregnant in the July after the MC in the May.

DS1 arrived at 33 weeks from pre ecampsia then DS2 arrived at 38 weeks with no complications :) x

DollyDaydreamz · 12/07/2018 12:11

Hi ladies thanks for your kind words of support! It’s good to hear some positive success stories of conception / pregnancies after mc.

Still in limbo at the moment just waiting for and praying it passes quickly so we can start to move on

Good luck to all TTC again X

@wouldthatbeworse I think the two week wait for rescan is because although gestational sac and yolk sac were found complete there was no sign of baby so they are having to wait and check that I haven’t just got my dates totally wrong - though after ttc for 7 months I’m pretty confident on dates. At 9+2weeks not seeing anything suggest pregnancy didn’t progress - the nurse said it’s really a formality as didn’t want to get my hopes up - the waiting is torture 😢
