Has anyone conceived easily at 41+yo?

Just wondering what I could be putting myself through really. Dh and I have discussed briefly ttc for a 3rd. We're going away this week and it could be a good time to start or at least to have the deciding conversation. I feel it's a long shot but I just want to have one last try iykwim. Has anyone conceived quickly after 41?

my friend just had her 3rd at 43 - took her about 6 mths to conceive - she had all but given up - started a new job and Bob was her uncle typically !

I'm 40 and wondering about a second - so might be joining you soon !

I haven't personally but I do know of three other women who have.

One had a surprise fourth at 44 and two others had a fourth at 40-41.

A friend of mine conceived at 40 (just under your line), within weeks of coming off the pill. It'll obviously vary from woman to woman, but you've nothing to lose from dropping the contraception and letting nature take its course.

It's certainly not a long shot.

I've tried to fight the idea but think I'll just regret not trying. I intend on suggesting trying for 6 mths and then stopping. I'll be 42 in November and dd will be 7yo and ds 5 yo by then. I've already stopped taking the pill and have had my first real period so now it's to stop the condoms or not conversation

I was 41 when I got pregnant for the first time. New husband and we had only been together for 8 months and he was away for four of those months! Bit of shock really as my doctor told me i was menopausal.

I am expecting #3 and I am 42. I concieved while b/f ing #2 who I had when I was 40. So it is very possible.

The best advice I can offer is get to know your mucus. When it changes to an egg white cosistancy then you are ovulating and it's time to get baby dancing.

My mate got up the duff pretty easily, and is having her first at 42 (or is it 43?) in September. Blu had her DS at 42, I think, at First Go.

I did, twice. once at 41, once at 43. Both times it took about 2 or three months.

my 5th dc decided to come into existence at a rather inconvenient time, when i was 42. he was conceived the day before my (very regular) period, which was a bit of a shock ( and then a lovely surprise) i have heard there is sometimes a fertility boost at this sort of age but maybe that's just old wives' tales

This sounds very positive. If I'm not as lucky I still have two fabulous children so nothing to lose in having a go

I love all these positive stories, and I certainly have heard that just as you start to get into the 40's your fertility can be higher for a bit (hence more twins etc), but for me at 39 it has not helped.

Both my ds and dd were concieved within 4 cycles, I am now on cycle 7 of ttc and no sign of #3 making an appearance yet.

I hope you get lucky and find it quick and easy like many of the stories here.

Lets wish eachother luck, I feel your pain, I am turning 39 this month and have been trying for 12 cycles and no luck, getting really scared can't do IUI or IVF just yet, insurance change sooo scared about the next year and turning 40, keep thinking that if it isn't this year than it can never happen, good luck to you!!

I met someone the other day at a playgroup who must have been early 40's. They thought they'd try for a number 3. (had a 4yr old and 2yr old). Ended up with triplets!!!!!!!!!!!

Decided to have a bash for no 2 in February, gave myself 2 months as if I didn't conceive then I'd be 43 before LO arrived & I felt I was pushing a bit (just personally) we had 2 goes, Valentines Day & 17th Feb & DC2 is due 10.11.07 so it took first or 2nd time. Mind you DD was a one off wee accident too so maybe we're just in sync at the same time or something. DH thinks he's 'Superfertile' & I obviously had nothing to do with it. Best of luck with trying and like you say all is not lost if it doesn't happen as you have 2 lovely children already.

Yes! Gave up trying after mc at 41 then nature smiled on me and at now 44 now have ds1 2.5yo and ds2 12m!! So that was one at 42 and one at 43!
So ds1 was very long time coming but ds2 appeared 2nd month of trying! We did the mucus thing. Have a go! If you don't try, you'll never know {smile]
