Advice Needed - First month off pill, TTC, several symptoms but no AF and tested BFN...

Hi, I stopped my pill at the end of May and had my usual week long withdrawal bleed. My Husband and I have decided to TTC - I’m on CD 37 (which would make me 7 days late if going by my cycles on the pill) but I’ve not had AF. I tested yesterday afternoon and this morning and both BFN. I’ve had quite a bit of cramping these last 4-5 days - very low abdominal and on the left side slightly. I’ve also been experiencing very tender/sore nipples which I’ve never had before. I just have to brush over them and they feel so sensitive! I’m also getting quite a bit lower backache, bloating, nausea, headaches, constipation...
I use to bloat a bit and get fuller, more sensitive breasts but nothing like what I’ve been experiencing the last few days.
I keep looking at Dr Google for advice and working myself up to think something bad is happening, or further convincing myself this could be it! Unfortunately my tests today and y’day say otherwise. I felt so gutted to see BFN but have told myself to wait until the weekend before testing again.

I had been on the pill for over 10 years so I’m not sure what’s going on or if this is just my body adjusting?

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Hey @ChloeF21
I came off the pill at the start of the year, had my withdrawn bleed as normal and then waited 37 days until AF arrived as normal. Also since coming off the pill my periods have been pretty much regular lasting around 35 days.
When I first came off the pill in the first month I convinced myself that I was pregnant 😂 I've spoke to other people too and they've also said that the first month after coming off the pill you get many symptoms pointing at pregnancy but eventually your body will calm down 😊

Hi @Unicorn234
Ah that's good to know I'm not the only one! I'm definitely guilty of getting ahead of myself and overthinking everything. It would be a pretty big ask to fall PG the month when stopping the pill... hopefully one way or another we'll know soon. I'd be relieved to see AF to be honest, at least I'd know I've had my first natural one since stopping, and it will give me a better expectation for next month.

@ChloeF21 it's a long process especially waiting the 2 weeks before testing 😢
But fingers crossed for us both 🤞

ChloeF21 · 04/07/2018 20:58

@Unicorn234 that two week wait is hell. I've been using the app Flo this month, and waiting 2 weeks from when it predicted I had ovulated was hard enough, and then being 7 days late and not knowing what's going on with all these side effects or symptoms has just made my mind go mad! Definitely got to chill out and see what happens. Need to remind myself it's all very early days... 💆🏻‍♀️💆🏻‍♀️💆🏻‍♀️

@ChloeF21 you remind me so much of me 🤣🙊 I was a complete nightmare at first but I've learnt that alot of AF symptoms are exactly the same as pregnancy symptoms so never get your hopes up.
My heads messed up at the minute because yesterday I took a clear blue early detection test and it came up with a very faint line. I got all excited and bought some digital ones (clearblue) today but that told me tonight 'not pregnant'
I've had some advice from ladies off here and they have said the digi ones aren't very sensitive so I'm going to wait until Sunday when AF is due to take another test. If I am pregnant then it's taken 6 months 🤞🙊🙈

ChloeF21 · 04/07/2018 22:04

@Unicorn234 ah I really feel for you, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for some good news!! It's so hard to not think about this all the time! I'm sure that doesn't help. It's so hard not being able to speak to people about this either. My husband is great but he's a bloke! So never going to fully get the extent of what we're going through or feeling. I'm glad I joined this today! I've read a few old posts and thought I could relate, and it's nice to have people to chat to who know exactly how you're feeling! Hang in there lovely, it'll happen! Stay strong and positive x

@ChloeF21 thanks hun! 😁 wishing you all the luck and hopefully it's not too long of a wait for you 😊 xx

ChloeF21 · 04/07/2018 22:20

@Unicorn234 aw thank you! Keep me posted! Sending lots of luck your way

I also came off the pill around Mid May and I was completely convinced I was pregnant in the first cycle! I had so many symptoms that I would relate to pregnancy and AF was 5 days late. I took a few tests over that 5 days but all BFN.
So into cycle number 2 I went! I'm now about 3 DPO so in the 2ww wait now!
Hoping all the best for you all :)

tinykirst · 07/07/2018 08:44

It took me just over a year to get pregnant after coming off the pill (I was 24 and no known reasons for it to be difficult)

It can take a while for the pill to get out of your system and for your body to get back to normal. I spent every month convinced that I was pregnant. And yes, the 2ww is the worst!!

Try not to stress (I know it's hard!)

Fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long xxxx Thanks

ChloeF21 · 07/07/2018 09:51

It's good to know I'm not the only one feeling like this. I did another test this morning as I'm now on CD 40, 10 days late, but it was another BFN. I expected it to be that but I'm hoping my AF will happen soon and that the delay and 'symptoms' are just down to being the first month off the pill. It's just frustrating not knowing what my body is doing, and feeling this out of control with it all. I wish I had stopped my pill sooner! if I see AF at least I know I'm 'back to normal' with natural cycles. It's so hard not to keep thinking about this, it really plays on my mind. I'm 29 and my husband is 30 and we've been together 10 years, we know the time is right and I think it makes it harder when you want something to happen so badly!

@ChloeF21 I hope you find out soon it's if pregnancy or AF coming. It was horrible for me and I only went to CD 33. It must be even worse for you.
Try and keep your mind off it (I know it's easier said then done!) Smile

ChloeF21 · 07/07/2018 20:02

Thanks you @purplestar9 there's no sign yet of either... but yeah, hopefully won't be waiting too much longer either way. And I just need to keep reminding myself it's all worth the wait!
Are you TTC your first? X

OP posts:
purplestar9 · 07/07/2018 20:42

@ChloeF21 yes this will be my first. How about you?

ChloeF21 · 07/07/2018 21:03

@purplestar9 my first too. So I feel completely new to all this!! New off the pill in over 10 years and new to TTC! It's all fun and games.... 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
purplestar9 · 07/07/2018 21:08

@ChloeF21 I was on the pill for around 11 years too. I am completely new at all this. I have 7 nieces and nephews (plus another on the way) so I've had lots of time around babies and kids but still know nothing about the conception and pregnancy stage! 😂

ChloeF21 · 07/07/2018 21:43

@purplestar9 aww I love that! You can't beat that close Family vibe. We have it the same with us. It's amazing how the pill just becomes such a normal part of your life. I think I may have been on it about 11 or 12 years come to think about, maybe longer! 🙈 hopefully we get to grips with this change and see what we want soon!

OP posts:
purplestar9 · 07/07/2018 21:55

@ChloeF21 I know it's great!
I suppose I never really thought it would affect me so much coming off the pill, I was totally convinced I was pregnant last cycle!
How old are you? If you don't mind me asking :)

ChloeF21 · 07/07/2018 22:09

@purplestar9 same here! Especially last week when I had all these symptoms and thought this must be it. They seem to be easing a bit now, and after 3 BFN tests I'm just holding out for AF now 🤷🏻‍♀️
No not at all, I'm 29 so definitely feel like now is the time! How about you?

OP posts:
purplestar9 · 07/07/2018 22:37

@ChloeF21 yeah I was taking tests every other day until AF arrived and even then I wasn't 100% convinced! I'm 27 and got married last August :) x

purplestar9 · 10/07/2018 13:20

@ChloeF21 any update from your end?

ChloeF21 · 10/07/2018 14:33

Hi @purplestar9 - no still nothing unfortunately :-( I did a test yesterday but still negative. I'm hoping I'll see AF soon, but will do another test at the weekend if no sign by then. I bought some ovulation strips and tried one today, negative on that so I'm not ovulating. Not sure what's going on really. I think it's just the effect of coming off the pill after so long on it. How are you getting on? Xx

OP posts:
purplestar9 · 10/07/2018 17:20

@ChloeF21 I'm sorry to hear that, hope you get an answer either way soon.
I'm good, currently CD20 which I think may be 5/6 DPO. This is my second cycle so hoping it will be a little more regular if I'm no pregnant this time. AF due in 9 days so it's just the waiting game now.🤞🏻
