Yes, I do...can I help at all?

Namechangefailagain · 04/07/2018 14:51

Thank you for replying.

I'm due to have my TAC placed soon and feeling nervous about ttc again once given the go ahead. I've had 2 previous loses 7/8 weeks and 20 weeks.

I'm looking for others who are ttc with a TAC or who have conceived with it in. Feel like hearing from others will help.

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses, how heartbreaking for you Flowers

I'm (ironically) not TTC, I had a big change of heart after my TAC was placed and have decided to stick with the one DC I have.

I'm happy to talk you through anything you would like to know about the op/recovery if that would help you at all?

I will warn you though that my experience was not a good one (surgeon with massive God complex). You may not wish to hear my story!

Surgeon was Nick Wales - truly awful man. My experience with him was a big contributing factor to my decision not to TTC again.

Felt too fragile to make a comlpaint though Sad

I'm sorry to hear your experience was not a good one. I do feel confident with my surgeon.

I've read a lot regarding the operation. How was your recovery? Thank you sharing.

I had a lot of confidence in my surgeon too - and I'm sure Mr Wales himself is an excellent surgeon, the problem, was he didn't carry out, or even supervise my op himself.

He left it to (an apparently very junior) doctor to do the op itself resulting in utter carnage. Even he looked a bit shocked when he saw my incision before I was discharged Sad.

So, I'd make absolutely, absolutely certain that the surgeon you expect to be operating on you actually does so. I'd check the extent of any 'assistance' that will be provided by any other surgeons as this has been PALS's get out clause with my potential complaint.

I have been quoted £10,000 for reconstructive surgery to repair the cosmetic damage which I may or may not go ahead with due to my newfound fear of general anaesthetic.

Still, its got to be better than a late loss, so I am at least grateful for that!

Perhaps I wasn't the best person to ask tbh - are you a member of Abbyloopers? There is also a Facebook page called something like UK TAC support which might be able to give you some support...

ManorGreyhound · 04/07/2018 15:34

...but to answer you question, even with my horror show incision (a proper jagged hip-to-hip shocker, at least double the width of my c-section incision) my recovery was very smooth.

I was driving again in about 3 weeks and fully recovered in about 6.

Namechangefailagain · 04/07/2018 16:27

I'm glad your recovery was ok after such an ordeal. I will deffinately check who will be operating on me. I wouldn't feel comfortable with any one else doing it.

Was your fear of general anaesthetic due to this too? It's a shame that the op to help you avoid a late loss has contributed to you not wanting ttc.

I was looking for people experiences good or bad so thank you for sharing.

I've just come across this @Namechangefailagain. I had a TAC placed in June of this year. Actually ended up being pregnant (despite using condoms) but had it placed at 11weeks. I'm currently 22+6 and all appears to be going well.

There's a (fairly quiet) thread entitled "The Short Cervix Club" on here somewhere you can join too, and would recommend the FB group UK TAC support.

I found recovery to be quick, despite having limited pain relief options. Was up the afternoon of the procedure and hobbled out of the hospital the next day. PM me or ask anything you like if you come across this!
