Hi setting up a new thread for those recently joined the 'recurrent' club and going through testing along with ttc yet again......Could be good to share notes, results and offer support at what is for me at least a time of mixed emotions!
My stats are:
Age 39
Ttc#1
Mc 5 wks sept and Dec, 10 wks may
First gynae appt next Thursday 12th

Had first af about 5weeks after last mc and think I'm about 6dpo this month on second cycle. Generally feeling better and getting ready to ttc but a bit conflicted with testing and likelihood of something being wrong. We are assuming not until told otherwise!

Hi there!

I'm 36
TTC #2
DD is 20months old conceived easily and no issues at all

First MC happened naturally and quickly at 5w6days August 2017
Waited for AF then conceived immediately saw heartbeat at 7 weeks but at 12 week scan baby had stopped growing at 9w4days. Had ERPC following week in December 2017

Decided to give my body a break from TTC until summer but somehow conceived immediately. 5 and a half weeks after ERPC had some spotting when I wiped which I assumed was AF starting, so we dtd thinking I wasn't fertile. Turns out it was ovulation bleeding (i'd never known that existed!) and AF never properly came. So 8 weeks after ERPC took a test and it was positive. Couldn't believe it. Went to EPU
Saw beautiful strong heartbeat at 6 weeks

2 weeks later went back for a scan and it had stopped growing at 6w5days
This was 2nd March 2018
I decided to try and mc naturally but it wasn't happening- tried the pills- but ended up with retained products and had to have an EPRC on 21st March.
This whole period was really difficult and a dark time for me.
After all that had happened I decided to see a Chinese doctor- who prescribed me with some herbal concoctions and acupuncture. I religiously drank the teas for 2 months after which time she told me my body was healed and I can TTC again from June

I decided to also see Dr Shehata - saw him end of May
He did so many blood tests and it turns out my issue is I have very aggressive natural killer cells.
When TTC He put me on predisinole from dpo1 until dpo10 - i am then to take a test, if negative stop the pred- if positive I continue it for 16 weeks. I also have been prescribed progesterone from BFP and 2 weekly sessions of intralipids

I also had my first appointment at the RMC in st Mary's mid June - where they basically told me they don't believe in dr s's methods at all- they don't really believe in his diagnosis of nk cells - and based on all my other blood tests I was told that I have just had bad luck and to go away and try again- but! They want me to wait 10 weeks! 🙄 because they want to give me a hysteroscopy because of the 2 ERPCs to make sure I don't have scar tissue.

Anyway decided to dismiss nhs RMC and put all my faith in dr s

We have only TTC this past month for the first time- but we didn't really manage to dtd when I ovulated because dd was ill and interrupted all our crucial sessions 🙄🤣

This month I am away from my DH so we are planning to TTC in earnest from August

Sorry for such a long post- I realise I am a be further along in the testing process
But I know exactly what you mean ! So many mixed emotions and anxiety!

Anyway let me know how things go with you- where are getting tested?

Yukka · 05/07/2018 22:27

Hi sorry took me ages to get time to reply. You've been through the mill that's for sure. Interesting they diagnosed the nkc as this seems to be all the talk at the moment re main likely cause of recurrent mc so annoying that other dr dismissed it.

I would have done the same and go with dr s as at least you have created something 'different' for the next one and it might be all you need.

My first two were only 5 wks and just like heavy periods which I'm grateful for in a way having lost the last one at 10wks and it was bad. Ended up in a&e as the pain was ridiculous they confirmed via scan and sent me home with morphine. Went for internal scan the next day and they could see a liquid sac still to come which happened two days later, but wasn't liquid it was foetus. This was harsh... down the loo at work. I would have stayed off work longer if I'd known but given they said it was only liquid sac I thought work would be a good distraction and I probably wouldn't even notice it happen. Like normal clotting. Was probably 9wks based on size and we'd seen a heartbeat at 6.4 scan. Have had to get the image out of my head, but I'm glad it all happened quickly and with no medical intervention.

Anyway, first af was about two weeks ago. We weren't in the right frame of mind so we have had non baby making sex and adding in a bit of romance which has really helped me get back to want to ttc. We're on holiday for next ov in July which will be great.

My first gynaecologist appt is next Thursday. I really don't expect them to find anything so we're planning to go full steam ahead and see what happens.

It is hard isn't it - and I don't know how I'd feel if we lost again but I know we have to try.... the counsellor at hospital after the scan said you need to be ready to face the prospect of losing again but I mean really... are we ever ready for that whether it's number 1 or number 5 there's no readiness, just good support and lots of love should the worst happen.

Where are you up to in your cycle at the mo? How are you feeling re ttc again?

Hi @Yukka
I thought I had responded to this but looks like it never posted!
I'm so sorry you had to pass the foetus at work! You're very brave going to work so soon! I took 3 weeks off! (My boss and his wife suffered over 10 MCs over 10 years so he is very sensitive to it!)
It's just such an awful thing to go through - especially after seeing a nice heartbeat- and im so sorry you had to experience that

I really hope you have a wonderful holiday and you manage to have relaxed fun times with your husband and fx a nice BFP at the end of it to round it off!!

I took 3 months off with no TTC
And I definitely feel ready to get on it when I get home end of this month
I just want to be pregnant again and have a baby ! My little girl loves babies and I just want her to have a little sibling close in age
But like you said- how can anyone ever be ready to lose again!
I mean now that I've been though it 3 times I know pregnancy is just going to be a whole heap of anxiety and worry and I probably won't be able to enjoy it until the baby is home safe and sound

I'm currently about 6dpo
I should Be home right at the start of fw so will be jumping on hubby !
I calculated that if we do catch this next cycle i will have the same due date as my first MC last August
IF this happens I will be so happy and feel like I can write off this whole annus horribilus!

Where are you in your cycle now?
Where are you on hols?

Yukka · 15/07/2018 15:49

Hi! Don't worry at all life is busy and the other thread moves so fast!!

I'm just having 2nd af since last mc so I'm cycle day 3. Amazingly that puts me bang on fertility week when we're on hol. Going to France to the alps with some friends, can't wait actually. Big chalet between us all, swimming, reading, and dtd!!

I went to the consulting appointment on Thursday and it was a bit surprising to say the least. He was talking about donor eggs and I was like errm dont we need to do some simple tests? He was deff on the side that at 39 my eggs are old....I've brushed it off. What and idiot to say that at first meeting.

Anyway they took bloods for all sorts, and booking in a non pregnancy scan to check no structural ir tissue issues also. Takes 6 weeks for results. I think you had all of this didn't you? He also said to start baby aspirin on next bfp. No specific evidence it helps but wont do any harm either. I've seen lots of women on here whi went full term when they took baby aspirin for first 12 weeks.

But I'm actually feeling quite good and positive. I would have been 20wks going on holiday but I didn't really think that far ahead so I think the milestone will pass fine. I hope :)

It would be lovely for your little girl to have a sibling! How old is she? Did you have any issues before her or just since trying for no 2?

When would you be testing this month?

OP posts:
Yukka · 15/07/2018 15:52

Oh also I'm not far off with the first mc and due date now you mention it, I was first pregnant last august and due date was 5th may which is our wedding anniversary. If I catch this month though due date would be April as cycles have been messed up.

OP posts:
zarala · 15/07/2018 21:20

Firstly! I cannot believe that's the first thing the consultant said! So many women have babies well in to their 40s! How presumptive of him!
My little girl is almost 21 months - I had really wanted to have another one before she turned 2 but that's not going to happen anymore!
We decided on New Year's Eve 2016 to stop preventing pregnancy and just see what happens- well lo and behold we conceived that month - I never monitored anything and we were sooo pleasantly surprised it happened so quickly for us. Luckily it was such an easy and carefree pregnancy and she is my joy and has really helped me get through these miscarriages.

My first mc was also around 5w6days and like you was just like a heavy period - my due date was my birthday! April 25- so that was particularly hard for me this year.

I am away from my DH this month so we didn't manage to dtd at all during fw. I left him on cd9 and I think i ovulated on cd13- so unless some kind of super sperm miracle happens I am not planning to test.
I will be back with him by cd9 so hoping we can catch next month!

So because I had gone private I took all my test results to my nhs consultant appointment- so I didn't need to wait 6 weeks as I had done them all a couple of weeks prior. They gave me an ultrasound and said it all looks clear However they want me to do a hysteroscopy which I scheduled for mid September and told me to not get pregnant before then!- they're worried I may have scar tissue because I had 2 ERPCs- but I'm hoping to be pregnant by then especially as Dr Shehata told me I'm good to go!

Dr Shehata put me on aspirin 75mg from now- supposed to take it every evening after dinner and then to continue until week 12 after BFP- but I keep forgetting to take it!
He also said to take pregnacare max and vitamin D 2000iu- from now and to continue when pregnant - I have been taking these !

I was quite relieved dr Shehata found a reason for these MCs and it is a bit more reassuring to try again knowing I have a plan in place.

I love the French alps! Sounds sooo lovely. I'm in Nice at the moment- the whole place has gone crazy with the World Cup today!
I really hope you have a lovely holiday and manage to conceive!!!

Keep me posted with how it all goes!
X

Yukka · 16/07/2018 20:15

Sounds like you spend quite s lot if runs apart that can be hard planning these things! We're not too bad although we both travel a bit with work it's usually in our own control.

It does sound good that you have a plan with Dr Shehata. I'm assuming my tests will come back negative and there'll be no firm plan other than to keep trying.

The nice thing though is that I feel excited about the possibility of being pregnant rather than the desperation that hits you when you loose one. It sounds like your in a good place too? It's really sad seeing all the other women struggling a lot and everyone's situation is unique.

Hope you didn't get caught in any World Cup troubles in Nice! Some of the Paris reports are a bit nuts!

Keeping everything crossed for you for next month :)

Searching threads for hope stories - how did you both get on? I hope it all worked out for you in whatever way that looks like. Xxx

Yukka · 30/12/2022 18:25

Hi wow this thread is a bit old! Well...

After the tests and scans I was diagnosed with APS - a blood clotting disorder that means I can get pregnant but can't stay pregnant.

Eventually, tiny blood clots form in the umbilical chord and placenta leading to miscarriage.

On the plus side, it is treatable, and within 3 days of being diagnosed I had a positive pregnancy test and was petrified - but the hospital swang into action and I was on aspirin and anti-coagulant injections within a week. I did these every day until I was 14 weeks, and continued aspirin until 36 weeks. I had growth scans and blood flow checks every 2 weeks, then I was advised to plan to be induced at 39 weeks due to risks.

Baby came by herself though at 37 weeks. A girl :) she is 3.5 now, starting school next September. I can't believe it myself.

It was a whirl wind. I was 40 when she was born and we decided to not try again due to our age and ongoing risks. Which is a bit sad but I'm ok with it and very grateful for her.

How are things going for you? Here if you want to chat x
