Is it too early to have pregnancy symptoms?

Hi,

Apologies if this post is TMI. I believe I am 6-8 DPO. My husband and I have only just recently started trying for a baby. On Wednesday afternoon, I started having cramping and the urge to pee. The next day, that feeling still remained and I managed to get a last minute doctor appointment as I believed I could have a UTI although it doesn't burn when I pee (saying that, I've never had a UTI before). She couldn't tell straight away if I had a UTI. She mentioned that I had a little blood in my urine, which could be a sign. She also did a pregnancy test and as expected, it tested negative (it would have been far too early for that). My pee has since been sent to a lab and I've got to wait till next week to hear back. However, I've been having symptoms since Wednesday and wondered what your thoughts are on this. My symptoms are as follows:

  1. Cramping in my lower abdomen for about 4/5 days - but not in the sense it's so painful I'm doubled over.

  2. The urge to go the bathroom a lot - especially peeing.

  3. Bloating - I've been really bloated and it gets even worse when I eat. With that, I'm suffering from a lot of wind.

  4. Heartburn - I've been getting a touch of heart burn every so often.

  5. A lot of vaginal discharge - I've been really quite wet down there. I've been finding that I've been quite aroused too with it.

  6. Larger boobs? - Although I think I actually lost weight the past 2 weeks from cycling and exercise, I think my boobs may be a little bigger. I have quite small boobs so this would be noticeable. I even got my husband to check and he's inclined to agree.

  7. Sore lower back - I'm having to rest my back a lot as my lower back is quite achy. Sometimes

  8. Very emotional - On at least two occasions, I've been really emotional. On Friday night, I was so emotional I just sobbed and sobbed. Beyond my abdominal discomfort, there wasn't really much reason for me to be that emotional.

I'm concerned that it could all just be in my head. I could genuinely be unwell with something like a UTI. Of course, only time will tell. My period is supposed to arrive around 10th July and I suppose I'll need to wait to see if it actually comes. I've never tried for a baby before and came off the pill in late April so I was hoping that there'd be some knowledgeable mums who could give me some advice.

At just a week past ovulation, yes, it is too early.
The cramping, peeing and discharge, ciluld all result from a UTI.
And a lot of early pregnancy symptoms (bloating, tender boobs and high emotions included) can all be pre-menstrual symptoms as well.
Don't get too caught up on symptom spotting. Letting your hopes build up, especially early on in TTC, can make it very difficult.

That being said, good luck to you. May the 10th or 11th July bring good news!

Yes it is too early. But we all imagine it's not when ttc Wink

Thanks. After speaking to my mum, I believe it could just be bad PMS. I've never had bad PMS before so it was a bit of a shock. I thought something was really wrong with me. It's likely to be due to being on the pill for the good part of 10 years and coming off it after all that time.

Learnt so much the past few days.

Too early, but you will have people come on and say they just knew.

Blondemother · 02/07/2018 14:25

Coming off the pill might be to blame - I had every symptom under the sun the first month off but was not pregnant.
Fingers crossed your body settles down!

Yes, it's too early to experience pregnancy symptoms at 6-8DPO as you likely haven't even implanted yet. However, I got pinching/pulling pains at 6DPO this cycle and got my BFP three days later! Good luck x

Turns out I am pregnant! Got my BPF two days ago! My theory is that I had a massive surge of hormones after ovulation and fertilization hence the intense PMS symptoms. Was a shock as I was convinced my period was on way.

Congratulations

Jaxtellerswife · 13/07/2018 07:22

I was going to say I am currently 5 weeks pregnant. I tested at 6dpo because I recognised the feelings I was having (my third) and my mood. And I was correct!
Congratulations

Yakadee · 13/07/2018 09:56

Congratulations x

Your symptoms sound just like what I have been having; I am currently 6dpo waiting till Tuesday to test.
Literally having to sit on my hands.
Congratulations

hammeringinmyhead · 14/07/2018 05:08

Congrats! I tested positive at nearly 7 weeks (not before as I had implantation bleeding at 5 weeks which I thought was a period) and until then I thought I had a uti so was downing cranberry sachets!

renza · 14/07/2018 21:11

Thanks everyone :)

I have my fingers crossed for you GreyC!

hammeringinmyhead - Your comment made me smile as I was downing Cranberry juice for a few days to no avail.

Yeah, I went to the doctors and everything because I was so uncomfortable only two days after ovulation. The doctors never got back to me about my urine sample so I just assumed no news is good news. The only thing that eased some of the symptoms was when I found a pilates/yoga video on youtube and did that for half an hour.

Since I was a teenager, I'd always been very lucky to have very mild PMS a day or two before my period so it was driving me bananas that my body and emotions were going so haywire.

Still amazed my body gave me signs so early. Can't wait to tell my mum and dad. They're in Gran Canaria right now so having to wait to tell them.
