PCOS bloods

Hi,

Can anybody tell me what bloods they had done for PCOS diagnosis?

My doctor told me I had mine done in April and all were normal but I've since found out that they were the wrong ones by another doc - Only FSH and LH.

I've had more done last week and I know she mentioned Vit D as this can be low in PCOS. I called up the docs for results and they only had Plasma Prolactin which was normal. Am I right in thinking that I should have testosterone, progesterone & oestrogen done too? Doctor is also off on holiday for 4 weeks so at a loss there too!

I'm at my wits end. I have all symptoms of PCOS and they are just worsening month by month since I've come off the pill.

I have my ultrasound on the 9th but I know that isn't conclusive anyway if bloods/symptoms match up.

Any help appreciatedSmile

The lh to fsh ratio is a classic test. Anything above 2 x fsh = lh is really indicative. Testosterone can also be checked.

Pcos is a spectrum, so my understanding is that you need 2 of the three criteria for diagnosis:

Polycystic ovaries

Irregular cycles

Lh/fsh ratio of 2 or higher.

Thanks Kate.

Just spoke to the receptionist at the doctors, they are waiting on FAI, vit D, LH, FSH & testosterone. Just a wait to find out the results as it's a different lab they have been sent to.

In the meantime I've majorly cleaned up my diet and I do feel a lot better already!

When I had mine done I had all of that checked, I can't remember the full results off the top of my head but prolactin was high, and oestrogen and testosterone were the wrong way around.

I then also had the ultrasound which confirmed I had multiple cysts on one ovary only.

For me AF became regular after 5 years off the pill (though I am currently on day 64 with no AF currently!) so though my symptoms have gotten better it looks like its rearing it's head again!

Hope your results come back soon so you get some info
