Do I ring the doctors and ask for a blood pregnancy test or is it the nurse who dose the tests? Do I have to say what I want the appointment for or will they just do the blood test at my appointment

A blood test to confirm you're pregnant?

lenasibbs · 26/06/2018 15:00

Yes I’m late and still keep getting negative tests so I have been told to get a blood test from the doctors I just don’t no how to go about this

I don't believe doctors do blood tests, how late are you? Are your cycles normally consistent? It could be the worry of not starting making it late.

TroubledLichen · 26/06/2018 15:05

Is it a HCP that has told you to get a blood test? If so they should have told you who to book with. Otherwise you could start by making a regular appointment with the GP and they can refer you for bloods if they feel it’s appropriate.

How late is your period?

lenasibbs · 26/06/2018 15:14

I’m only 5 days late at the moment but i have no sign of my period I always get cramps a week before. I’m really relaxed about it so I no it’s not stress related because I was meant to be getting tests done on my ovulation this cycle so I wanted my period to get them done, no it was just people saying wait a week and get an appointment for a blood test

I've never heard of anyone having a blood test for pregnancy unless they were having fertility treatment.

lenasibbs · 26/06/2018 15:42

a lot of people have told me on the Ovia app to ask for one as some woman don’t have enough of the hormone and can only get a positive by blood test

A lot of urine pregnancy tests nowadays are just as good as a blood test, just do a urine pregnancy test as your GP will probably refuse to do a blood test to confirm pregnancy

ShowOfHands · 26/06/2018 16:39

A GP shouldn't do anything until you've missed two periods. I'd just wait for now. An odd cycle as a one off does not warrant investigation this early.

strawberrye · 26/06/2018 16:41

Sorry OP just saw you have been getting negative tests. I agree with the others though that you probably need to wait a little longer to see what happens.

physicskate · 27/06/2018 08:36

Many ovia users are not in the uk. It is not standard practice here for a beta hcg test to confirm pregnancy unless you're undergoing fertility treatment.

It's really really common to have an anovulatory cycle or one where you ovulate a bit late. This will cause a late period.

Good luck - hope the wait isn't too long.

People on here and on app forums often trot out 'get a blood test' but blood tests cost the NHS money do if you do go to the GP at this point they'll likely tell you to take another test in a week and come back if you miss 2 periods.

Breannabruce · 01/10/2018 13:39

I’m a week+ late on my period, pregnancy symptoms but negative pregnancy tests, even one in the doctors office and they’ve sent me for blood tests in a week if there’s no sign of AF, so it can happen.
I’m not on any fertility treatment and it’s the first period I’ve missed, so it’s not unheard of!
