Hi All

I’m going to Barbados with my family soon and just wondered if anyone knew what the current threat of Zika i have not seen any recent news reports none of us are going pregnant but I’m more concerned about the risk of conceiving on return if I was to decide to as it says online about waiting 6months after ur return so just wanted to know if anyone had any upto date knowledge thanks

Barbados still has Zika. It's classed as a moderate threat.

If you look at gov.co.uk they have all the relevant information. Better to get the information from the official source rather than asking randoms on mumsnet.

Yes there is lolacola - so many people on here rely purely on hearsay. All advice is generally well-intentioned but sometimes wrong! Better to do their own research (preferably straight from source).

Unfortunately Zika is a still a threat in Barbados. I have been loads and always get bit my colleague last year actually caught zika from Barbados so I would advise no travel if TTC. I did read an article on the local web page that suggested the region is looking at the zika risk to be downgraded, but have seen nothing else since. Personally we are avoiding the whole region for this reason. (Mega shame, but it's better to be safe).

It's men who have to wait 6 months, women only have to wait a month. More importantly, you can pay about £200 and get OH tested. I read that the longest it's actually recorded a being in the testes is 45 days, and that was a tiny sample. So if you can afford it, the chances are you'll be clear earlier than 6 months.
