DTD- how often?

Hi all- I'm on cycle 7 of TTC (really hoping it's lucky number 7 for us). How often should we be DTD leading up to ovulation? I have read varying things ranging from every day, to every other day, to multiple times a day. Any advice/tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance x

Every other day through your cycle is the best advice. Unless your man is particularly young and has lots of fresh sperm when you could do every day. But most men need a little while between sessions to refresh supplies. Equally you need the regular ejaculations to make sure he is producing enough fresh stuff.

Thanks @Twickerhun I think we will give that a try this cycle. Every other cycle we have been DTD every day on the week or so leading up to ovulation - it's obviously not worked out for us so we'll try something new this time round I think. Thanks for the advice x

Try not to just focus on the lead up to ovulation/ov week. With all the tracking in the world it’s still easy to miss ovulation and you need to be getting ina regular, fresh, supply through the month

Yeah you are right @Twickerhun - it has also has been putting on more pressure trying to time it the way we have been. x

It only takes once! But as often as you can enjoy it. Worst thing is for it to become a chore, then you don't do it when you need to!

Thanks for your msg @Wellthisunexpected Wish that was the case for us. But agree, in previous cycles it has become something to add onto our list that we need to tick off! Going to try and not be so regimental about it this cycle and see how we get on... x

@TTC7 I just think do what is right for you and your partner! I have tried both, EOD and every day, Just enjoy dtd and relax and aim for every other day or every 2 days that way you cant go wrong x

@TTC7 Well I have lirerally just had a faint positive this morning and will retest in the morning with a frer, and this month I dtd everyday, drank grapefruit juice, used preseed a few times in my fertile window, took pineapple core and lay with my legs up. But who knows what worked. Hopefully its a true positive and not a false x

I have heard every other day but not sure what's best either! Haven't heard about the grapefruit juice? Fingers crossed for you x

@TTC7 - maybe total fluke but we got bfp the first month we tried preseed. Good luck xx

@Pinkroseuk it’s just meant to make the ewcm more friendly for the sperm! So you drink it from af ends up until ovulation then stop. X

We followed SMEP this month, so DTD EOD until you get a positive OPK, then you DTD three days in a row, skip a day and then one more time - it’s meant to cover all bases but I don’t know if it’s any more effective than just doing EOD. I’m testing this week so will know if it’s been successful soon!

I am currently pregnant with #3.

TTC #1 for 9 months and DTD around 7 or 8 times around my fertile window. Nothing happened. Took a break from TTC and I fell pregnant after DTD once.

#2 was unplanned, DTD once.

#3 same as #1 but 3 months rather than 9.

Might be coincidence but my DH's sperm seems to be stronger when it's been stored up a bit 😂

If you're not temping to confirm ovulation as well or your ovulation is irregular, make sure you DTD every other day from the day your period finishes. I caught pregnant beginning of May, only DTD once, on CD12 which is way earlier than I'd normally ovulate. Goooooood luck 🤞

We always go for every 2-3 days from after af for as long as we can. I don't want it to feel like we are focusing on a target and instead just enjoy it. Am sure this will become tough but we're enjoying it so far.
Sperm can survive for up to 5 days once the route is more inhabitable (its fairly uninhabitable for sperm until you ovulate and your body changes ready for fertilisation) so dtd every 2-3 days should mean there's sperm waiting for the egg.

So done about another 6 tests last night and this morning and all positive
