I have been on the pill (microgynon) for over 2 years and have always been good at taking it, which is why I'm so surprised at what I have just done! In short - I finished my period Wednesday 13th and had unprotected sex with my partner on thursday 14th and sunday morning 17th. On 17th I found myself bleeding in the afternoon and it was only then that I realised that I had completely forgotten to take my pill for 3 days (the last one having been taken on the 14th and only 3 days into my new pack which was started on the 11th after my break).

  1. is the bleeding breakthrough bleeding?
  2. what are are the odds of pregnancy arising from this? It really wouldn't be the end of the world if I did fall pregnant, but I just want to know whether it is something I should be overly concerned about. Thanks all.

Sounds like breakthrough
But that doesn't mean you can't get pregnant
You could ovulate any time, already have ovulate, not ovulate for ages, best thing to do is test if you don't get a period within a month
Obviously if you Start taking your pill again that can mask a period with another breakthrough or it could increase your chances of ectopic (I know some contraceptives do not sure about combined pill though).

I'd also recommend using a barrier method for the next week or so.

You can use emergency contraception up to 5 days after the unprotected sex so may be worth getting to a contraception clinic today if you really don't want to be pregnant...
