Coming off pill when might I ovulate?

Hi, I've been on the pill for around 15 years non stop. We are planning on TTC for the first time within the next couple months. If I stopped taking the pill on the 1st of the month, when would I most likely ovulate/try to conceive. Any ideas or is it not that easy to say? We are willing to try straight away. Thank you - I'm pretty clueless with all of this!

Isn't it better to have a period first for dating purposes?

Pastaallday · 10/06/2018 22:30

How long would it be before my period came? Or again, is that a silly question and depends on the individual? Sorry-did say I'm bit clueless!

Not as clueless as me! I'm old and it has been years since I TTC
Still. Here's a shameless bump for you.
And good luck!!

Ha thank you! I don't really want to ask anyone in RL as just keeping it to ourselves at the mo. But I've never done this before and been on the pill forever without a break so have no idea really!

I was on the pill for 11 years, and when I stopped taking it, after the breakthrough bleed which doesn't count as a real period, it took more than 4 months for my period to return, so it might take a while.

Pambo81 · 10/06/2018 22:38

I think it varies a lot between different people. I came off the pill then had my withdrawal bleed. 28 days later my first proper period followed by cycle of 42 days. Can take ages for your cycle to become stable or it may just go back to normal straightaway

HelloDC1 · 10/06/2018 23:10

Different for everyone!

I came off the pill, had a withdrawal bleed, then my period 30 days later. Then didn't have another period as I was pregnant, all happened quickly.

Blondemother · 11/06/2018 07:50

Same as poster above - had my withdrawal bleed, first proper period 28 days after that, then pregnant.

It’s hard to say how long before you ovulate, you might be back to a normal cycle quickly or it might take a while to settle.
You could chart your temperature or use OPKs to find out what’s going on.

With both of mine DC, I conceived straight away. With my second, I didn't have a period and conceived within the first month, with DD I had a really, really heavy period and then caught.

But as others have said, it's all down to the individual and everyone is different.

Good luck and have fun trying Thanks

I was on the pill for ten years. Stopped, had withdrawal bleed and ovulated within a week. BFP three weeks later.

You're particularly fertile in the first month or so, so good time to TTC.

Laura549678 · 11/06/2018 08:35

Just jumping on this one! First baby I came off my pill, withdrawal bleed, period a month later and conceived the next month.

With the second we are TTC currently. Came off my pill last month, had withdrawal bleed and due on I THINK this Friday 15th .. but I have been getting a lot of pregnancy signs.. just not sure whether I am overthinking and it is just AF coming.. been getting them for over a week now so I doubt it.. fingers crossed for positive test! Waiting until the weekend as last night it took till 5 days past when I was due for a positive test lol.

Hopefully I am a case that you can conceive in the first month off the pill (hopefully! :-) ) x

Sugarskulllover · 11/06/2018 08:42

I'm similar to @thereareflowersinmygarden.

I was on the pill for 12 years non stop. I stopped my pill half way through a packet not expecting to get pregnant so quickly. I had a withdrawal bleed within 5 days and 3 weeks later I got my BFP.

Pastaallday · 11/06/2018 19:43

Oh good luck Laura!
Please could someone explain AF and BFP please? Confused
I have heard you can be most fertile in the first month. So when would be the optimum time to DTD? As soon as I stop taking it? So is the first bleed you have not a 'real' period as such and the first period will come after? Thanks for any tips!

Aunt Flo. Period
BFP. Big fat positive. So pregnant.

goldensunshine8 · 11/06/2018 19:48

I came off my pill after about 15 years. I had a withdrawal bleed, then 14 days later I ovulated. I'm now waiting for my first true period and hopefully TTC in August x

Pastaallday · 11/06/2018 19:52

Godlensunshine, how did you know when you were ovulating so soon after stopping the pill?

goldensunshine8 · 11/06/2018 19:57

I got a clear blue digital ovulation kit. Although I knew my withdrawal bleed wasn't a true period, I decided to count it like it was and started doing ovulation tests from day 14. I got a solid smiley on day 14 which means peak fertility. It reassured me as I wasn't sure how long it would take me to start ovulating. I'm hoping it becomes a regular thing x

Lou3214 · 11/06/2018 20:09

You could get an ovulation kit? And then maybe try an app I absolutely love called Flo! It tracked periods and ovulation and it's never been wrong for me :)

Sunshine91 · 11/06/2018 20:10

@Pastaallday I stopped taking the pill 9th May, my period started 13th May (or withdrawal bleed? It seemed like a normal period to me anyway). Then I ovulated on 29th May, I used an ovulation kit and took my temperature every morning. I had been taking the pill around 11 years. I guess everyone is different but that's my experience 😊
