Can anyone explain bbts to me please? I've started this morning ready for next cycle if I don't get my BFP. Due AF Sunday, what should I be looking for etc?

Hi @MissJones14
I tracked bbt for 6weeks and got bfp last cycle.
Basically you should see pretty similar temps for the the first part of cycle, then a shift down during ovulation which then spikes (either in a day or over a couple) to higher temps than at the beginning of the cycle. They should remain high if you have conceived, but will drop again if AF is coming. I had a one day dip at 8dpo which I reckon was implantation.

Good luck!

Are you using an app? If not, it's worth remembering that ovulation normally comes with a double dip - your temperature dips, go up a bit, then dips again just before you ovulate. If you have a decent app (I use Natural Cycles) it can work out the pattern for your body after a few cycles.

The most important thing I've learnt is that you need to be asleep for at least 4 hours when you measure. I tend to wake up and fall asleep again at about 4am, so I measure then rather than when my alarm goes off at 6. If I wait until then, I don't get an accurate reading.

@ChaosMoon that's very good advice thank you. As I very occasionally wake mid early morning I wouldn't of thought of that. Thank you.

Also, as you say there is a double dip in ovulation. When would you BD? This is the only thing that confuses me really x

I DTD very day in the fertile window (so just before and all low days) and a few days after the temps began to rise.
Thing is with bbt is that it only confirms when things have happened, doesn't really help to predict unless you have a good few similar cycles to compare with.

Thank you 😊 will see how I go next month if I don't get my BFP this Sunday x

@MissJones14 I've been using Natural Cycles for a year (as contraception) but only ttc for 1 cycle (no joy yet). I dtd every other day in my predicted fertile window. Looking at my latest chart, that was a week starting from just after my first dip. It's worth checking out the blogs and FAQs on the NC website. Both the advice and science are really interesting (if you're into that Smile).
Fingers crossed for Sunday!
