Brown discharge, cramping and positive test

Hi all, DP and I had sex exactly a fortnight ago. He withdrew as we for various reasons wanted to avoid conceiving around may/June time but have been vaguely ttc/seeing what happens since March. I think I ov'd two days later.

Anyway at the weekend I started getting period type cramping and some brown when wiping sometimes so assumed period was on the way.

Fast forward to today (Wednesday) and I've still got the cramps and I'm off brown spitting but no proper period. Was expecting af on Monday.

So curiosity got the better of me this morning and I bought some cheapo tests. Got a faint positive. Could this be a normal pregnancy or is it doomed? Apologies if that last sentence is insensitive, I'm just trying to be realistic. Regarding the timing being not ideal we will deal with that if it had been a real issue we would have used better protection.

I'd say pregnant!

They're rarely positive if you're not, but you can have a carnival pregnancy .... anyway good luck!! Thanks

From what I've learnt so far is that there is no such thing as a false positive and that implantation bleeding can happen on and off for a few days. It sounds to me like implantation bleeding.
I wouldn't worry about it being doomed or anything I think that with it being earlier than expected it'll come as a shock. Just remember there is loads of options out there if you REALLY aren't ready.. But if sit tight a few days, take another pregnancy test and see if the line is a bit stronger. If it is it's showing a good progression and that should mean it is going as planned. 1/4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. In the first 12 weeks it's usually due to an issue in development after that a problem in mother maybe or a health condition (this is why it's usually 'safe' to announce pregnancy then) . But know if anything does go wrong and are pregnant it isn't your fault!
I would also start taking 400mg of folic acid and some vitamins every day if you're worried about foetal health.

Hope this post helps

Thank you for all your replies. I am in no doubt that something has "bonded" but await to see if it's sticky! I've already been on folic acid.

Definitely not considering any other "options". All for pro choice and I have been there before - that's not the path for me this time x

Are you feeling more settled today? I hope it all goes well for you!

Following with interest as I have similar symptoms. How soon before period was due did your spotting start?

roastandyorkies · 07/06/2018 18:39

I started spotting on Saturday. Period expected Monday x
