Progesterone Levels?

Hi, hoping someone can help me!

I have an LP of 10 days, with spotting from 8-9 dpo, I had my day 21 bloods taking which was 7 dpo and these came back with a result of 28.7, my doctor says this is normal but I'm not so sure as most places I have read it says the reading should be 30+
I don't think its good to spot from so early on! Does anyone else have this issue and if so what was your blood result level? I just don't want to settle for "normal" if its not within normal range.

I have also been taking all vitamins including B6, B complex and magnesium for 6 months now and this hasn't helped! Thanks Smile

Hi,

My progesterone levels were 21 on day 21. Like you I'd heard that over 30 showed ovulation. We had already decided to go for additional tests privately. They did a scan during which they saw I had ovulated so that wasn't an issue but were concerned that my progesterone levels were a bit low in the latter part of my cycle. I was prescribed cyclogest pessaries which worked for me and I fell pregnant soon afterwards.

Perhaps have another chat with your gp to discuss further?

Good luck x

WelshMammy123 · 01/06/2018 09:11

Just to add - I never had any spotting and cycle length wasn't a concern - it was just taking me a very very long time to fall pregnant which is why I felt there was an issue.

Tinker315b · 01/06/2018 09:16

@WelshMammy123 Thank you! I have to go for repeat bloods but have to go 3 days earlier than 7dpo this time. Doctor has agreed that 28.7 is not where she wants it to be, but she is almost sure im still ovulating and my progesterone levels are dropping too soon. When you went private who prescribed you the pessaries? Im also thinking of going private for a scan, but will wait until I get these repeat blood results back. She had just called me shortly after I posted my message.

Thank you very much for your advice xx

We went to the Lister clinic in London. We'd been trying for a year after 2 losses and it had taken us 3.5 years to have our DD 3 years before so we knew something was up despite being told we were unexplained. So we went expecting to perhaps need ivf rather than just because of the progesterone. We saw one of the fertility doctors there. She prescribed progesterone at the first appt and by the time we went back for the results of the tests she'd also recommended, I was pregnant again. The additional tests showed another issue as well so I was pleased we had them.

It's definitely worth pursuing. As far as I know using the progesterone won't hurt so even if it weren't to work you haven't lost anything by giving it a shot.

Hope all works out - I know how difficult it can all be x

@WelshMammy123 Thank you, glad you had a successful story Smile

I will hold fire until I get the next set of bloods and then I think I will get private tests done. It really is such a tough experience to go through x

In pretty sure I have progesterone issues , although my gp gave me the wrong bloods and wouldn’t do 21. So I had the ones 2-5 on my cycle .
My cycles always vary in length from 28 days to 36 days and I usually spot for a week before I come on (why I think I have low progesterone )
I’ve started temping this month with OvuSense , on Monday I got a positive opk but my temp hasn’t risen on my OvuSense graph which makes me think even more I have low progesterone and I’m not ovulating :(

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 11:02

@Wishescometrue I am back at my doctors next week she wants me in 3 days earlier which means I will be 4 dpo. What was your level? My cycles are 25 days with spotting from 8-9dpo and then AF appears at 11 dpo so only a 10 day LP. I think its the spotting worries me. How are you finding ovusense? I was thinking of getting it also. Im sorry your going through the same. Are you actively TTC?

Kirstyyy123 · 08/06/2018 11:08

I’m confused how long my lp is because i spot for a week before I’m due on on. So do I count the spotting or to full bleed? Yes we have been for 7 months now . How about you. It’s so stressful . There’s a discount code for ovusense , 25% off so that’s why I got it .
It’s really good and I don’t have to do anything . I know temping orally is quite hard to do. But this does your temp every 5 minutes through the night .
I may have took matters into my own hands last month and got some progesterone cream , I only spotted for 3 days which I couldn’t believe !! Although it made me feel so sick almost like morning sickness . Going to lower the dose this month (if my ovusense confirms I’ve ovulated)
I don’t quite understand my chart from my cycle day 4 bloods , not sure what was checked :s

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 11:19

@Kirstyyy123 No you count the 1st day as the first day you see a flow and red blood. So my doctor told me! I've been TTC 6 months, I know its not too long but long enough when its all you want. I find my "10 day wait" so tough, I get stressed and overthink every little symptom.
Oh great i'll have a look online now, I think doing BBT orally is part of what stresses me and wakening up at the weekends to take it also. Oh did you find it really worked then? What one did you get? So do you use the cream everyday?

OP posts:
Wishescometrue · 08/06/2018 11:44

Ah I see . Well usually my lp is like 12 days (I count from my positive opk) but apparently from charting my temp I may not ovulate till like 2-3 days after my positive opk... so thinking it’s 9 days but that’s only if I get my temp spike tomorrow . IF I don’t that means I’m most likely not ovulating .

Do ovusense !! It worked out like £50 I think )with the 25% off) but it’s so worth it as I don’t have to stress I’m not doing it right , it’s an app it connects to on your phone .

So the progesterone cream you use after you know you have ovulated and until you know your not pregnant .
Omgosh though did it make me feel sick... but my spotting reduced so it defo did something .
Also this month I did soya isoflavones cycle days 5-9.
Literally I’m going crazy :/
It consumes me ... it’s all you think about !! I know how stressful it is!

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 12:13

@Wishescometrue Do you have a code for the 25%?

Yea you have to count from your actual ovulation day to work out LP length. Hmmm must look into the cream if I still spot this month, thank you! x

OP posts:
Wishescometrue · 08/06/2018 12:18

It says JUNE25%

Just the first month of using ovusense and now I’m like I’ve been working out my ovulation day out all wrong !! Well it’s helping me learn stuff I guess :(

I got the cream from amazon . It’s imported so I don’t know if I would recommend it :( x

OrcinusOrca · 08/06/2018 15:40

I don't know if I might. I've started on B6 in the hope that Helps stop the spotting and extends LP. My periods went funny a few months ago, had a 42 day then a 48 day cycle. In the 48day one I got bloods done on CD43. My progesterone was 26 Sad but I have no idea if or when I ovulated. Theoretically LPs don't change much so if mine was the usual 10-12 days then I was about 6DPO and then my level is too low really. I'm going back to the GP Monday to ask for proper 7DPO bloods as I know when I O'd this cycle.

Cleozeta · 08/06/2018 16:31

My LP is usually 11 days, I had day 21 bloods and progesterone was 28.4, dr said this was 'normal', which I was not convinced by. The following month I did B complex and accupuncture & chinese herbs and got bfp the following month (miscarried at 10 weeks but I don't think that was related to progesterone as it was a mmc)

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 17:39

@OrcinusOrca Yea I’ve been taking B6 since December and it hasn’t made a difference to me yet 😔 good luck with the doctors let me know how you get on! I’m there on Tuesday to get mines repeated. If you have low progesterone does the doctor prescribe medication or do they refer you does anyone know? X

OP posts:
Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 17:41

@Cleozeta ours were similar then! Mines were 28.7 at 7dpo and the doctor also said it was normal but I wasn’t convinced either so I rang the doctor and said I wasn’t happy so she agreed and that’s why my bloods are being repeated, but she’s requested me to come in at 4dpo instead! I’ve also been taking b complex but no difference, and had my second session of reflexology on Tuesday in the hope it relaxes me. I’m very sorry to hear about your MC 😔 x

Twiglet2353 · 08/06/2018 19:09

@Wishescometrue can I ask which cream it was that you used? I'm in the same boat regarding short luteal phase of 8-12 days and spotting from about 4dpo some cycles. My GP suspects I'm not ovulating - progesterone 26 on 7dpo/positive OPK - so I'm having a laparoscopy next month before starting clomid. I like the idea of attempting progesterone though. In America it's common practice to prescribe progesterone pessaries x

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 19:35

@Twiglet2353 Did your doctor prescribe you Clomid or did your consultant? I’m getting positive opks every month and also rises on bbt every month to confirm ovulation which stay high until 9dpo then they start dropping!

OP posts:
Twiglet2353 · 08/06/2018 19:38

@Tinker315b my gynae consultant will be but need this lap first for history of endometriosis. Wish it was easier. I'm learning the patience of a saint 😂

Cleozeta · 08/06/2018 19:38

Tinker, I think at about 28 it's 'boarderline', so it's probably classed as ovulating but only just, so they slide us into the 'normal' bracket. Which is a bit crap to be honest. There should be a 'further investigation' bracket. Anyway, it didn't affect me getting pregnant, so hopefully it can happen again and next time it will stick. And with the same levels, hopefully for you too.
Have you considered accupuncture? It's very good for leveling hormones. Also Vitex is good for hormone balance too, although I haven't tried that yet.
I wonder why they would do it at 4dpo as levels would be lower then? 7 dpo is apparently the peak which is why they normally do that day

Wishescometrue · 08/06/2018 19:39

So it’s by vita bay care , and it’s called natural diosgenin gel. It’s from amazon. So it says rub in twice a day after you know you have ovulated to like inside wrists, inside of thighs etc. It defo done something as my spotting is religiously 7 days and it went down to 3!
Also I did soya isoflavanes (you can get from Tesco ) these are actually like natures clomid if you like ... and you take them on like cd2-7 etc. Have a look at them. I wanted to explore all my options before I properly get help / intervention. X

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 20:22

Luckily my doctor has be excellent she’s doing the repeat bloods and if they don’t come back higher she’s doing a referral for further investigation! Thank you, fingers crossed. I think I’ve ovulated today but will wait and see temps over the next few days but I’ve dtd quite a lot so fingers crossed!

Well I started reflexology and it has helped me relax soo much, but was thinking of trying acupuncture in maybe a few months if no luck! Yes i took Vitex to try encourage af to come after stopping the pill, but scared of taking them now incase it messes things up more. She said because I have a 10 day LP then 7dpo wouldn’t be my peak day and they need done 3 days earlier, which actually makes sense. By 7 dpo my progesterone is already starting to drop slightly! Last time was 7dpo. X

Tinker315b · 08/06/2018 20:23

@Wishescometrue That’s really good though that you gained a few extra days spotting free! Just shows then that it is possibly low progesterone? How did you find the soya? I’ve heard a lot of good things. X
