This is embarrassing.............

I've been examining my cervix and it feels a little bit lumpy. I'm 7DPO and CM is sticky and cervix is low but with a couple of small lumps on it. Doesn't hurt and no abnormal bleeding. Is it hormonal?

Examining the cervix is a really good way of determining when you are fertile.

Keep your nasty comments to yourself thank you. In case you hadn't considered it, this is quite a sensitive subject and lumps anywhere are a worry so I suggest that if you can't help, you bugger off and think about what you are saying before you type it.

mummy2olivia, yes i have heard about examining your cervix to determine fertile times, and what you are asking is nothing to be embarassed about, i have lumps in mine too and i think its normal however if you are really worried, go and see the docs to put your mind at ease.

im not sure how it all works but it was something like if the cervix is soft and not tight then you were more fertile or something like that.

you could ask for the nurse or GP to check next time you are there, if you are concerned

but I think a normal cervix is less like a 'nose' and more like a very warty old alcoholic person's nose

I can't believe mrsmalumbas comment- how spiteful! Some people really should think before they type- If I was examining my breasts, would that be having time on my hands?

mummy2olivia it usualy means you are more fertile when your uterus is low and quite soft where it is nearer to the vaginal opening to collect the sperm. When you are not fertile the uterus will be higher up and a lot tighter.
Ive had lumps on my uterus for years and had them examined when I was being tested for endimetriosis(cant spell) and the gp just said it was wear and tear form having children.

Hi Olivia, just come back to this and wanted to say sorry for making a flippant comment on a sensitive subject. Wasn't intended to be spiteful, honestly. As you can see it was late when I posted - should've been in bed I think! Yes a low, soft cervix usually means you are getting fertile, usually though the mucus gets more slippery and wet a bit like egg white when you ovulate rather than sticky so maybe you have not actually ovulated yet. As for the lumps, it sort of depends if they are new or if they've always been there. I agree that it might be worth getting a nurse or doc to have a quick look if you're concerned. Sorry again for my offhand remarks.

Hi Mummy2olivia - this is going to sound odd but - do you know for a fact it wasn't bumpy beforehand (ie do you check regularly?) It could just be normal for you?

My cervix points the wrong way, I was in a flap when I felt it but apparently that is normal for me, there is a very wide range of cervix positions, shapes and sizes apparently.

Why was that embarassing though - we've all got them (well apart from the blokes on here and I tend to think they think they have by association

And this has all been really helpful. Not sure now when or wether I've ov'd. oh well. back to shagging.

Pretty sure the lumps are the small erosions the nurse mentioned I had when I last had a smear. If I remember ages ago when I had a coil in and was checking for strings, they were there then but to be honest I assumed it was the coil so they may have been there for a while.

I think they are a bit lumpy rather tahn smooth discs, esp after childbirth.

People have different relationships with their cervix I guess - I am just a passing aquitance with mine.

Um, I just wanted to say that although I am sure the others are right about the lumps and bumps, generally a woman is fertile when her cervix is soft, high, open and wet (sounds odd I know, you'd think it would be lower to help the sperm along...). It moves lower after ovulation and closes, and then in some women moves higher again (but stays closed) if she is pregnant.
Just wanted to put that on the thread in case anyone is reading this who is new to checking their cervix. I really must have too much time on my hands...

I know this thread is a little old now but seeing as it's about examining the cervix, thought I'd ask.

Checked my cervix (for the first time in my life!) just now and it seemed to be at the end of a protrusion (same width at cervix) which came quite far down in my vagina. Does this make sense? I'm trying to explain it properly.

Does this seem normal? From what Gingme says, I think this must be a low cervix and therefore I'm fertile - does this sound right?

The cervix itself is a bit like a sort of doughnut shape, so yes it does protrude a bit anyway. I personally think that checking your mucus is a bit easier than checking your cervix as it's more obvious and easier to see changes. The book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler is great on this.
