Negative ovulation, negative HPT, missed period

Hi all
I came off the pill in October and cycle has been 37 or 38 days since then. Haven’t been TTC until April as was in the zika risk and have been getting periods as mentioned above.
Last month I started doing ovulation sticks on the 19th and stopped doing them on 5th May because they had all been negative and was past when it said I should be ovulation (19th-22nd April). Thought I would just wait until next period and then start again.
Thing is I am now on cycle day 50 and no period!
On the 21st my partner and I had sex but that was it for the month as he was away.
So I didn’t ovulate then but I still have done 5 HPT just in case and all negative!
Did the last one last Thursday so cycle day 46.

Surely I can’t be pregnant if The tests said I didn’t ovulate on the day I had sex and 5 HPTs are negative?? But where is my period?

I know other things can delay it but it seems so cruel that I am this late on the one month we’ve had unprotected sex since being off the pill!

Anyone else had something similar? I just want it to come so I can start trying but now I’m worried I didn’t ovulate last month and now my period isn’t coming...is something wrong?
GP said I have to wait for 3 missed periods and 6 months of negative ovulation tests before they look into it :-(

I’m terms of symptoms I have had low cramping and dizzy spells but this could be from other conditions. Feeling very emotional too but perhaps from the stress?
Also can’t explain but the skin on my stomach feels really tight??

I had a 53 day cycle and thought the same, did the same and felt the same but then I came on my period.

Sometimes you can have your periods still whilst you're pregnant but I don't think that's really common.

It's a stressful time trying to conceive even though everyone tells you to relax.

I tried opks and they stressed me so much as they were always negative, I stopped. I thought I wasn't ovulating so started temping but my temps are all over the place. It's nice to speak to people who have had a similar experience. If you need to just get stuff off your chest, I certainly don't mind listening.

Anyway I've probably babbled on too much and taken over your post!

Lou0712 · 21/05/2018 14:33

No, I really appreciate your reply - thank you!
It’s weird because i didn’t feel stressed at all when I missed my period, I knew I wasn’t pregnant due to ovulation sticks being negative and only having sex once (miracle baby if so!) so it’s jist so strange as I wasn’t anxiously waiting for it etc!

I know now the stress is probably making my period not come but can’t stop thinking about it!

Thing is I’ve had so many things since coming off the pill like acne and tinnitus etc, I wonder if I’m just very off balance still which is throwing my cycles off.

So did you end up conceiving despite ovulation sticks all being negative or are you still trying too?

Seems unfair of GP to say wait 3 missed periods before they will look into because how you meant to know you've missed 2 further periods if you are still waiting for your 1st one? It is a case of waiting 3 x your usual cycle length so 114 days? Shock

Anyway, what I wanted to say was I do feel for you. TTC is a strange time and I guess because you are being acutely aware of your body you are going to notice these extra days even more and worry about them even more!

If you do not think you ovulated this month, that is most likely why your cycle is longer than usual. (Or you might have ovulated later than usual in your cycle which would then push back your luteal phase and your period.)

RC1985 · 21/05/2018 15:00

Still trying to conceive but trying to not think about it too much- she says!

I was told if you haven't had a period within 3-6 months you should go to your doctor.

I agree with Twittlebee you notice everything about your body more than you used to.

Lou0712 · 21/05/2018 15:39

Well my thoughts exactly twittlebee - 114 days is a long time to wait! And surely not healthy to go that long without a period if it doesn’t come during that time!

So you can ovulate some months and not others?
Funny how when you’re younger you just think you’re constantly at risk of getting pregnant!

You are both so right - I think every little twinge I am noticing and wondering what it is! I’ve probably had all these symptoms before and paid no attention.

All my friends became totally obsessed when they said they wouldn’t too...crazy how you think you’ll be relaxed and take it in your stride but as soon as you decide to go for it, it totally consumes you!

RC - sounds like you are doing the best you can to stay calm which is All you can do! I hope it happens for you soon!

Yeah some months you might not ovulate, other months it might take your body a few attempts at ovulating before it finally manages to or ovulation might just get delayed by whatever reasons (usually stress, which is of course features in massive amounts when TTC!). Most people ovulate roughly same time every cycle though which is why most people have regular cycles - this is also why many people get a BFN despite period being late (they don't realise their body has just ovulated later this month).

I have PCOS, so don't quite a bit of reading around ovulation.

And yes so funny! I have a young work colleague here who was obsessing that he thinks he must have got a girl pregnant as they had unprotected sex and she didn't get the morning after pill. I explained that its actually really unlikely that she's pregnant after DTD with him once (she didn't end up pregnant in the end!). But I remember being like that, it isn't until you start TTC that you realise just how bloomin lucky it is to get pregnant!

Lou0712 · 21/05/2018 16:04

Thanks for the info, I am still quite clueless as tried not to read up lots as wanted to be relaxed and go with the flow....how well that is working out for me!!! One late period and I am all over the shop!

Haha it is crazy isn't it! I was so scared every time I missed a pill or was delayed in taking it that I would get pregnant...after speaking to all my friends and starting this journey myself it does seem like it has to be PERFECT circumstances to achieve it!

It really does and I don't think OH and I could manage having sex every other day lol! We used to have it 1-2 times a week before trying to conceive, sometimes less if we were tierd so can't see that changing now. They do say forcing it doesn't help as it makes you stressed but that's what my friend did and it worked first time lol.

My OH isn't like that and if he's not in the mood then he's not in the mood, one of the only guys I've been with like that! Tbh we probably haven't been dtd enough.

I personally think I've had loads of stress with other things and that's why nothing is happening so waiting for these other things to calm down and then see.

Lou0712 · 21/05/2018 16:31

RC - this is why I used the ovulation sticks because my friends said to just have sex every 2 days until pregnant but honestly don’t have the time or motivation for that!
Sounds horrible but we luckily both have the same sex drive so it’s not like one of us is getting turned down all the time!
Life just gets in the way!

I also have other stuff going on and think I need to just not think about TTC and just concentrate on getting my health to 100% both physically and emotionally and then when everything including cycle is back on track I will take it more seriously again.
Hopefully during that time of not overthinking it, it will just happen naturally for both of us!!!

TwittleBee · 21/05/2018 16:36

yeah our DS gets in the way so we just DTD until ovulation! (I do BBT charting to help determine it as OPKs aren't reliable for me).

Btw Lou have you DTD any more past that when you thought you were meant to ovulate? Just a thought... if your body ovulated late and you DTD around that time then you might become pregnant?

RC1985 · 21/05/2018 16:49

I did use opks but always came back negative so gave up. Am charting but my temps have been all over the place.

TweetleBee you might be right about a possible pregnancy. I'd go see you're doctors Lou

Lou0712 · 21/05/2018 16:58

Yes but only after I was already a day late because my OH was away the 2 weeks in between (which was annoying timing the one month we could DTD without zika risk!).

I’ll definitely try the temp checks when my cycle is back to normal as seems the opks can be unreliable!
