@buntingandstarcharts I have managed to conceive twice. The first time, 7 years ago, we couldn't go ahead with the pregnancy due to a neuro condition I had just been diagnosed with. The medication could not be taken at the time of the pregnancy. It was a difficult decision to make, but with that it was that my health was the priority. I was probs 1 stone lighter than I am now.
The second time I conceived we weren't trying, I was on contraception. One doctor said the ectopic was likely a side affect of the contraception I was on. Possibly a way to stop the pregnancy? Another doctor said she felt my contraception wasn't right for me.
The ectopic resulted in the loss of my right tube, I still have the right ovary.
My contraception was changed to the Mirena coil which was horrendous. I started getting cysts approx 4cm on my right ovary. In 2016 I had the coil removed, did a short spell on depo can came off it. Contraceptive free ever since.
Last year, I started to get pain at the time of ovulating on the right side, and after being admitted due to intense pain, a sonographer casually told me during my scan that I have PCOS. My Consultant and GP feel it's not an issue fertility wise, as my cycle is regular and I've got pregnant in the past. Should also mention weight the same.
It's so weird that I can get pregnant trying to prevent pregnancy by taking contraception and hardly having a sex life, and I can't when actively trying and not effecting my cycle with contraception.
Ever since my ectopic my fertility has been a concern. When I went today, I was already prepared about IVF requirements, I knew that I wouldn't be considered for it. I wasn't expecting that they may decline to investigate/diagnose any issues I may have in that area until my BMI is "right".
My GP whose special interest is family planning, is starting tests at primary care level, this involved swabs being taken down there(very dignified) and a full blood screening to be arranged the day I have my next period. They will check for everything there, pair it with my husbands sperm results and then said my case to a gynaecologist. I did repeatedly say, I'm not asking for IVF I know what I need to do for that. I just want to at this point, find out if there are any conditions/Damage or anything other than weight effecting my fertility. She agreed given my history and the length of time trying, that investigation should really be considered, but has known them refuse due to BMI.
Sorry for all the info. I feel like I'm a failure at this point. That past choices effect the present. I feel it's my right to ask for investigations, if they can then 100% say it's your weight after that and we can't help until you are at a certain weight, I will accept that.
