Lower back X-ray & ttc

Hi everyone,

I’m currently ttc and am booked in for a lumbar spine X-ray tomorrow. Ill only be around 6-7 dpo. Is that risky? I have some clear blue digital pregnancy tests in the house as I’m doing the study, but I don’t think they have any chance of picking up this early. As far as I know no pregnancy test will.

My instinct says just go for it as it’s so early, and let’s be honest it’s unlikely I’ll get pregnant this month anyway. Wwyd?

I work in a hospital and they will usually insist that women of child bearing age are within the first fourteen days of their cycle for a lumbar spine x-ray to minimise the risk.

I would suggest giving the x-ray department a ring and asking what they advise. Safest option is to postpone it for a couple of weeks just in case.

I would suggest delaying the X-ray. Not sure they'd let you have it anyway

Ah okay. I’m surprised no one checked when I rang up! I’ll try and ring in the morning but they’re really hard to get hold of. Otherwise I guess I can go and explain, and I can always go home if they say no.

Given that X-rays are pretty useless for back pain in younger people I would skip it and go for physiotherpy.

Hi @lucked, I had a minor car accident back in the autumn and I’ve had pain ever since. It’s not getting better and affects my job which involves long periods of standing. I was advised to have an X-ray to rule anything major out before we settle the car insurance claim.

Feel like I’m an old woman already and I’m only 28 Sad

So I will have it if it’s safe to, it’s annoying though as I’ve had to wait for an appointment and will no doubt have to wait again if I can’t have it tomorrow. But better safe than sorry I guess

I only thought yesterday about whether it’s an issue when ttc. Didn’t really cross my mind, probably because I’m trying not to get my hopes up

Hmm I phoned them up and they said it didn’t matter unless you were pregnant, so to come in anyway...
