Chance of pregnancy with morning after pill?

So my last period was on the 29th April. Me and my husband had sex on 11th may (midnight) and had an 'accident' then that day 11th may At 16:15 I took the morning after pill from chemist. Think it was called emerres or something but was levenelgestrel (sorry sp) but I suspect I was at the start of ovulation due to timing as also my sex drive being higher ( always happens to me during ovulation) and also I'm now getting the stretchy discharge so if the pill works by delaying ovulation could I get pregnant because I can still feel that I'm ovulating ???? Does it work if you take it during ovulation ?

Following as I'm in the same situation

Probably not the answer your looking for however it didn't work for me - I have an almost 2 year old! I got a positive test around 10 days after taking the pill (which I took tbe same day!) as was very nauseous. The first time I ever had unprotected sex and it was approx day 30 of my cycle so incredibly shocked!

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 16:05

Also probably not the news you want to hear... I told the morning after pill 10 hours after sex and it did NOT work for me, I wasn't sick or anything. I was told to come back for a test 2 weeks after the pill and it showed positive... it probably works more often than not though. Good luck x

Took* not told lol

pregancyscare · 14/05/2018 16:09

Lol definitely not what I want to hear i just hope it worked! A baby really isn't what I want right now

My three and a half year old says it doesn't always work... Sorry!

mustbemad17 · 14/05/2018 16:12

My 6 year old says NOPE sorry 🙈 it could have potentially caused us to lose one (she was a twin) but this was just the dr surmising. I was on the pill too 😂

m0therofdragons · 14/05/2018 16:19

Didn't work for me either. Condom split followed by morning after pill. I imagined I was just hugely unlucky. Had a termination in the end. Still with dh (who was only dp back then) so we do occasionally wonder what might have been.

ACurlyWurly · 14/05/2018 16:21

on the pill but been very sick, used condom which broke, morning after pill and an 18 year old who proves you can take all the precautions in the world but sometimes it happens. sorry!

This could have been written by me - almost down to the exact dates! I'm trying to work out if I feel different to normal currently, took the MAP 36 hours after dtd and a day or two after that started having a bit of lower tummy discomfort and got the ovulation discharge (sorry tmi) but it'll be a tense wait until my period due on the 24th.

I googled it and there are so many posts about it not working and also it's not effective if you've already ovulated??

Crossing fingers you get the result you want.

mummytobe07 · 14/05/2018 16:25

Again not what u want to hear but I fell pregnant after the morning after pill. I took it around 6 hours after sex and had a positive test 2 weeks later. It then resulted in a miscarriage but I don’t know if that was just coincidence.

pregancyscare · 14/05/2018 16:26

Aww thank you all. I'm also very tense now. I just hope I've been very lucky and DONT get pregnant

Looks like the majority have gotten pregnant

From the opposite side of the spectrum here. The MAP has never failed me (not that I'm a frequent taker!).

DH and I also find ourselves very fertile. DC1 was conceived during our first month of ttc and we weren't tracking ovulation. DC2 was conceived one very drunk night when we forgot to use a condom for literally 3 seconds. Didn't take the MAP as assumed 3 seconds would be fine and I was not ovulating or within my fertile window and we also knew we'd be starting to ttc within the next few months, so thought whatever will be will be. Currently pregnant with DC3 after we had a contraception failure, but still outside of fertile window. Didn't take MAP as again we knew we'd be ttc in a few months.

So on the basis that the MAP has always worked for me and that I seem to get pregnant when outside my fertile window, I'd say I'm a pretty good advert for it.

Also bear in mind that it's impossible for people to say if it did or didn't work for them, only if they did or didn't get pregnant, as they never would have known if they would have fallen pregnant in the first place if they had not taken the MAP.

Hope you get the outcome you want.

OneStepOneStumble · 14/05/2018 16:39

Try to stay calm. There's literally nothing you can do until such a time you've missed a period or a few weeks after.

I say this with good intention whilst trying to convince myself of the same.

CoupleOfPushBacks · 14/05/2018 16:45

Hey op, I've taken it a few times (I'm a huge worrier). It's not failed me yet!

DragonsAndCakes · 14/05/2018 16:50

Apparently 95% effective if taken within 12 hours of unprotected sex. 85% effective if taken between 12- 24 hours of unprotected sex

I would guess that more people will a) remember and b) come on to tell you about the times it wasn’t effective.

Good luck.

mummytobe07 · 14/05/2018 18:55

For sure, im definetly in the minority with it failing, doctors and pharmacists etc were shocked so it’s likely it’ll have worked for you. I have also taken it before and it’s been successful but once it wasn’t.
