TTC 12 months or more

So it's officially cycle 12 for us! I'm 34 (35 in Aug) and DH is 37.

It's been a super tough year and we didn't expect ttc to be so challenging.

What's made it even worse is that we had a termination (please don't judge) 10 years ago when we first met and weren't in the right place to bring a baby into the world. I'm sure you can imagine the challenging thinking and feelings about this then and now.

Is anyone else 12 months or above? Has anyone had a successful pregnancy after tying 12 months or more?

Our papers are with the fertility clinic so just waiting for the dreaded appointment...

X

19 month and I'm only early twenties never went to doctors or anything as I was abit paranoid and just said what will be will be. I'm now nearly 13 weeks 😊 x

Lmj25 · 12/05/2018 17:20

and I have a 4 yr old aswell so never even thought I'd have any problems. Not sure if it's just my body took so long to adjust after coming off pill or what but I'd go between a month to 6/7 week without a period so that was most likely the cause x

FingersXssd83 · 12/05/2018 18:25

So glad to hear it's worked out for you @Lmj25 I'm thinking the worst and that there's something wrong with me and I'm too old now...

I hope ours work out as well as yours, I really want two babies minimum and concerned that time is running out for us.

I wish I knew how long these things take as I would have made sure we started sooner x

I'm sure it will Smile Ive got to admit i was starting to get worried in the last few months and was completely blown away when I found out I was pregnant. I fell pregnant with my 1st at 16 complete accident but thought following on from that it would be easy trying for second and I was so wrong but fingers crossed everything's going ok at the mo. Best of luck I hope everything works out for you 🤞🏻 x

I was in a very similar situation to you. We finally conceived in our 13th month of trying and were 2 weeks away from a fertility appointment the day we got our positive. I found those 13 months really tough and the closer we got to 12 months the more I gave up hope of it happening.

Just like you, this was all compounded by the fact that we’d had a termination 5 years ago when we were 25. At that stage in our lives, we were still dicking about, partying and not taking our relationship too seriously. But it was that moment in our lives that made us decide that this was relationship was it, that marriage and babies were our future but we just weren’t quite there yet. So we did everything we were supposed to: buy a house, get married, get ourself in good places in our careers and financially stable. Then we were ready and it didn’t happen and it was bloody hard and I really beat myself up about the earlier termination thinking it may have been our only chance for a family.

But it did happen. I’m now 23 weeks pregnant. So please don’t give up hope just yet; some of us just have to wait a little longer.

We'll be 2 years in July.
All my tests came back normal so far. It's now on DH. Doctors don't seem too worried. Some of us are unlucky it would seem.

Witj you 100% on wanting to have been told it's not so easy all the time.

FingersXssd83 · 13/05/2018 19:20

Wow @Loulabelle25 your story has given me some much needed hope!

Our journeys sound so similar, hopefully we'll get our BFP month 13 just like you. I can imagine the stress, worry and long wait is forgotten as soon as you get pregnant. Trying my best to stay relaxed but it's hard some days.

Sorry to hear that you haven't had your BFP yet @MaisyPops, I hope you get it soon. Are you being referred for further fertility tests/ help?

It happened for us - eventually. We ttc#1 for over 3 years - had all the tests and were told we had unexplained infertility. Went through 3 IUI's and 1 IVF - all of which were unsuccessful. I then fell pregnant naturally the month after the ivf failed. Genuinely no idea why it took so long or why it happened then.

When we started ttc#2 we expected a long haul but I fell pregnant after 2 months. Sadly that ended in MMC. Then I fell pregnant again after 3 months and that too ended. It then took us a year and an appt for a private consultation where we had some more detailed tests which found some issues and perhaps stopped us being 'unexplained', to fall pregnant again. I'm now 35 weeks.

I really think there's no rhyme or reason to it all. I've had times of absolutely despair thinking it'll never happen.

I hope things work out for you soon x

Me! Just got my BFP on friday, cycle 14 of ttc with no sniff of a BFP then literally the day I had a GP appointment to start investigations! I know it's so hard when people say just relax and hang in there, made me want to hit someone but for me it was true. Fx for you OP Flowers

FingersXssd83 · 15/05/2018 09:38

Thanks @WelshMammy123 and @Merrz so pleased that you got your positives.

I'm having a treatment at hospital this morning and they have just done an early pregnancy test and surprise surprise I'm not preggo, so onwards and upwards to cycle 13...

Thanks to everyone for taking time to share their stories, it really is a huge comfort.

xx

It was cycle 12 for me. We'd had all the tests and everything came back normal so we were waiting for our IVF referral and boom, BFP so it can definitely still happen naturally at/after the year mark. I think it just takes longer for some of us unfortunately

Fingers crossed for your BFP soon 🤞

3 years ttc dc2 for us, I had a MC and several cp in that time. Dc3 wasn't planned and was conceived when dc2 was 4 months old. Now ttc again (dc3 is 4 and I'm not holding much hope for falling pregnant quickly so have done bbt and opks from the start as I don't want to waste time).

So yes it can take longer than 12 months and have a happy ending xx
