Under active thyroid and want to start trying for a third baby.

I got diagnosed with the thyroid condition about a year ago, maybe a bit less? So I wasn’t on medication with my first two. Anyone that is and can give just general advice really? I know that I need to keep on top of it as baby can be born with a thyroid condition if it’s not under control and my medication is safe to take while pregnant etc. But does being pregnant while under active feel any different or is it more of a struggle than with my first two pregnancies?

I have an underactive thyroid (Hashimotos) diagnosed after DS1 was born. Am now 35 weeks with DS2.

I would get your TSH checked before you TTC as ideally it needs to be

PrimeraVez Thank you for the reply. Embarrassingly I don’t know what my numbers as such are. But I had it checked again recently and all is fine and no med changes. I take 50micrograms a day so I think it’s quite low, maybe even borderline? I’ll make sure to get tested regularly and make sure they know my dose etc whenever I fall pregnant. Great to hear that if all is kept on top of there should be no differences in pregnancies. I did mention to my doctor a few months back about wanting a third baby and he said I could go right ahead so I’m summing my numbers must be quite low. I’ll make an appointment and double check everything. Thank you.

I have an under active thyroid and had regular blood tests when pregnant to make sure my medication remained correct. It meant my appointments were with a consultant rather than a midwife so really I had excellent care throughout my pregnancies. You’ll be fine, I wouldn’t worry. I was on medication throughout my pregnancies so can’t say if I felt different, but I generally felt healthy and well in myself.

chocolatesun That’s great to hear. I’m risky anyway because I’ve had a child with a heart condition so will have extra appointments anyway. Feel more relaxed that I will have more to keep a check on things. Seems I have nothing to worry about. Smile

What is going on?? I had my second baby 10 months ago. Periods always been regular 28 days and typical. I breast fed for 7 months and my periods still returned literally 4 weeks to the day after birth at 28 days as usual. The last few months however. (Possibly since feeding) they haven't felt the same I monitored the first couple and although 28 days I bled for up to 7 days heavily which was unusual as I'm always heavy for a day then have a normal light period ending after 4 days max. Last month my period arrived a week early. It started lightly but I just wanted it to hurry up and get heavy as I had the most awful pmt and could kill someone. Felt awful. Eventually it got very heavy and lasted 7days. I'm now on day 23 of that cycle and the last week I've felt awful pmt again. Bloating etc and woke this morning to heavy bleed. Since them this has become light almost stopped but I do feel cramps and rubbish and pmt? What's happening?im scared I don't want early menopause I want another child. I'm 35. I have not lost any baby weight either despite casually trying. I say this as I've done nothing different than I did after my first baby4 years ago and I sprung back to my pre preg size. I'm a stone and a half over weight still. I've been thinking thyroid issues but had basic blood test and Said functioning fine? Is there a better test? I had an awful reflux problem throughout out whole second pregnancy which has also returned now? Please advise. Thank you.

Nukins I’m sorry, I don’t know what to say nor do I have any helpful advice. For what it’s worth I didn’t bounce back after my second and I’ve gained a lot since then and haven’t tried to lose it. More stress I guess with two and extenuating circumstances after her birth even until now. I only had the blood test for my thyroid and I’m not sure there is another test. It’s all fairly new to me. Hopefully someone will be along with some better advice and who knows more on the matter. If no luck in this thread, you could maybe start one and see if more people notice and can offer any help.
