CM vs other, um, vaginal secretions...

Please forgive my ignorance, but is there a difference between CM and vaginal wetness when aroused? I don't really get enough CM to really evaluate the texture except for a small amount just before ovulation (on tissue, never on knickers).

I notice that before intercourse the wetness sometimes has an egg white texture that strings between my fingers. Is this CM coming down, or is this something different? And if it is different does ensuring that you are very aroused and thus very wet help with conception?

So glad you asked as this confuses me too. From what I understand it's all CM really unless there's been an third party interference (swimming? IDK!) so it's best to use a clean middle finger just to swab around now and again throughout your cycle. But like you I don't get much anyway so it's hard to tell! :/ hopefully someone else will give us more helpful answers 🤞🏻x

Fertile cervical mucus (egg white CM) is very different from the wet vaginal lubrication from being sexually aroused. EWCM is like jelly or bogies, it can be wobbly on the loo roll and stretch stringily between your fingers if you pick it up! Also it's extra slippery.
My book says it should stretch 5cm if it's the proper good fertile stuff.

Also......... this stuff, taken during your fertile window thins your fertile mucus and lets the little swimmers through!
I'm convinced this helped me conceive dc after years of trying.

It's impossible to tell what really worked or didn't, but I will defo get the mucus cough medicine out when I'm ttc again! Other than that I just used period/ fertility tracking app and kept trying, and trying, and trying!

Yeah, so getting ‘wet’ down there during sex won’t actually help conception? I’ve had some cm around ovulation where it strings between the fingers which I assume is ewcm but I hardly get any. I have some of the cough medicine you mentioned in the house and took some today but im meant to be ovulating tomorrow so probably too late...
