Going to use one of those machines that measure your hormone leavles, but they say, start on the first day of your period.

Well I generally spot for a couple of days before its "proper". When does my period actually start?

I would say after the spotting, when you nee proper protection.

lou33 · 15/05/2007 21:10

mine just starts, never spots

Tatties · 15/05/2007 21:11

I count it from the first sign of blood, but I don't really spot... it's light on the first day but I wouldn't call it spotting.

AnguaVonUberwald · 15/05/2007 21:13

OK, thanks.

I really do spot (TMI alert) one spot today, but all the cramps etc, then probably some more of that tommorow.

So do I count it as "started" now?

Sorry, not clear. "Now" is, spotting, not yet started "proper"

proper is the 1st day you need to wear protection

popsycal · 15/05/2007 21:52

i was going to ask this the other day
i have a few days of this

SlightlyMadStew · 15/05/2007 21:53

My spotting is a bit of brown mucous - a bit like an ultra mini-show - which I assume is just from the cervix as it starts to open. I would probably first day of period is the first day of wet red blood that flows IYSWIM.

AnguaVonUberwald · 15/05/2007 21:53

glassslipper. that sounds helpful, but I don't really understand it. How do I tell the first day I need to wear protection?

This is not directly after comming off the pill (a month later) so have been using protection for a while.

Slightlymadstew

That seems logical to me, but think I have read somewhere its the first day of any blood, so wanted to check!!

I personally don't count he smudge of brown mucous as blood - it is not fresh. I assume that it has just been sitting in my cervix for the last month.

TBH I normally get my 'mini'show' less than 36hours before my flowing blood so for me the difference isn't that great.

franca70 · 15/05/2007 21:58

yes, first day of period is the first day of red blood

AnguaVonUberwald · 15/05/2007 21:59

OK, thanks for that both of you, really helpful.

Will put away the "when do I ovulate" machine for another couple of days!

I too do the cramping and spotting thing for a day or two before af arrives. I read somewhere that you don't count those as cd1 but cd1 is when you get a proper flow. Good luck
