Hi everyone. Very new to absolutely everything when it comes to trying for a baby!! We are going to be trying to conceive just after coming back from our holiday 1st July. And have several questions if anybody could help that would be great!

  1. I’ve heard I should be taking prenatal vitamins 3 months before trying even whilst on the pill is this advised?
2. Is there any prenatal vitamins you would recommend?
  1. Is it wise for my husband to take prenatal vitamins too? And if so when would you recommend that he starts taking these?

Thanks a lot!

Hi I took pregnacare vitamins 3months prior with both pregnancies. We had the his and hers ones with DS1. We were doing ivf though as it was ivf so had sperm frozen so he didn’t take anything with DS2.
I think having a regular healthy diet and cutting down on things like alcohol, smoking, caffeine etc is more important than the vitamins.
Other things we were told by various medical people were for DH not to wear tight pants or trousers as it makes their bits too hot which ‘apparently’ can reduce sperm production.
Drink lots of milk and water to improve egg quality.
There’s a lot of stuff that I think was old wives tales... legs in air after etc 🙂
At the end of the day enjoy yourselves and be kind to each other. Good luck

I think folic acid and vitamin D are the only recommended ones for you - although hubby and I are currently taking the Pregnacare his and hers conception ones.
