Temp Chart?

I've been temping for the first month and I'm not sure about my chart...I know your temp goes up after ov but I'm not sure if it went up enough and why it then went back up a week later? Also if I OV'd on Friday that was only CD9 which seems pretty early. Any ideas?

You didn’t ovulate day 9. Ovulation is confirmed by your temp going up and staying up for at least 3 days. Your higher temperature on cd9 could be the result of sleeping in a bit, alcohol the night before, or a number of other things.

It looks from your chart as though you are using a regular thermometer and not a basal body thermometer. A regular thermometer is not good as it rounds your temperature up or down to the nearest tenth of a degree and you really need to record your temp to 2 decimal places.

When it goes up enough to show you've ovulated, you'll get a red "cover line" showing your average temp for the cycle and how high it went afterwards.

It's perfectly possible to ovulate CD9, I conceived having ovulated CD10 in the past, but your chart shows you haven't ovulated yet so keep DTD and you should get confirmation soon.

Highs and lows are a normal part of charting, and you do need a proper bbt thermometer with 2 decimal places as Polly says.

This shows the cover line and ovulation rise (though it wasn't convincing at the time as it went down on the third day!) as an example.

Thanks @polly and @anne, I have been using a BBT thermometer but my temps have been really close together when they're low - do you think that's wrong? I've been doing it at the same time every morning before I get out of bed. Ovia reckons my FW is over so that's interesting that you don't think I've OV'd. Thanks anyway, I'll keep going!

@anne I didn't know about the red line! Thanks for sharing your chart Smile

Your temps look fine @peaches1991, just keep at it.

I didn't use Ovia for temping, my chart above is from Fertility Friend. Does Ovia give you a cover line? Are there any examples on there you can compare with?

You might want to give FF a go, there's a free version. I find it really useful.

You're more than welcome. It'll show up 3 days after you've ovulated to confirm it's taken place. Like a small pat on the back each month Grin

I'm no expert but I've been doing it for a while so ask away if you have any questions.

Polly99 · 21/04/2018 19:54

Ah yes, sorry. I didn’t see that some of your dots are between the lines.

Are you taking your temp at the same time every morning?
You may have ovulated on cd14 but you’ll only be able to confirm that once you see what your temp does in the next few days. As Anne says, keep at it!

This definitely looks like you haven't ovulated yet. How long are your cycles normally?
