Anovulatory cycle..?

I have regular 28 day cycles and have done since starting my period (aside from a few months last year when I took norethisterone and it threw my cycles out of whack). I do ovulate regularly and on my own. Bloodwork has confirmed that. I do know though, that it’s not uncommon to have a cycle where you just don’t ovulate.

The cycle I’m still currently in, I think I ovulated. My opks got darker, I had ewcm for a few days prior and on 1st April (cd14 so the day I expected to ovulate) I got some strong cramps/twinges, almost like a bad stitch pain that came and went, in my left side near my ovary. I don’t normally get ovulation pain so not 100% sure what it feels like so not sure if those pains were something totally unrelated.

Anyway, my opks never got positive. They got dark and almost positive but not quite. On 2nd April, my cm had pretty much dried up which is typical for me after ov. IF my calculations based on my cycle are correct and my ewcm/ov type pain is also correct, that puts me at cd14 ovulation.

If that’s the case then I’m now 2 days late for my period with no real sign it’s coming anytime soon. However I used smu after work today to do a frer and it was completely negative so there’s no way I’m pregnant. So my question is, does it sound like this was an anovulatory cycle? I don’t think I ovulated (if I did at all) any later than 1st April because I had zero ov signs by 2nd. So say the 1st was a fluke and I didn’t ovulate at all, when should I expect my period? If I’ve ever had an anovulatory cycle before, I’ve either got my period a day early or on time because the only time I’ve been late was after taking the norethisterone and that was the same time I had my blood taken and it confirmed ovulation.

Will it just come when it feels like it? Is it possible I’ll just miss it completely? This is why I should temp!

It’s possible you did ovulate but you missed the surge on your tests - I’ve done this before. I’d say it’s unlikely you had an anovulatory cycle if you have regular periods, although they seem commonly talked about online I don’t think it’s that common at all. It must be so frustrating for you! If I were you I’d sit tight and maybe do another test in a day or so just to confirm that you definitely aren’t pregnant. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply :) I though my period was going to be here today as I woke up with a tiny bit of watery brown cm so I put my mooncup in and I had it in all day and when I took it out before, there was no blood of any kind and only a little spot of brown tinged cm. I’ve had no cramps or any other pre-period symptoms other than a slightly tender right boob. This is the third full day late now. It’s so annoying! And you’re probably right about it not being too common, I tend to just believe everything I read on the internet 🙈

So do I, I think it’s easy to believe things happen more often when you read these boards a lot. Sometimes it can add to your anxiety I think. But they’re also a huge support. Have you tried testing with a fmu?

Well I'm the same hun this month and I never get an anvoluntary cycle. But that said i do think there's a lot to be said about gut instinct and that's how I feel this month. I'm almost that certain about it I probably won't test early! First time of no testing in nearly a year. However that coukd change in only 8dpo lol slap me with a wet fish now

RedRose I have had zero brown cm/spotting since I checked my mooncup at about 2pm. This is infuriating! I do have another test but after the last negative, I can’t face taking another one just yet

OwlPatrol I just think that if I’m not pregnant and I definitely didn’t ovulate late then that’s the only explanation, right? This cycle was the first time I’ve done a test in about a year haha I’m not a fan of them at all. Hopefully you’ll get your period on time (or not, but for good reasons!) but here you go anyway slaps with wet fish

Sorry to comment on an old thread 😁 but I could have written this myself about this cycle??? I’m so confused.. did I ovulate.. did I not!? So my question is did you get your period or a BFP??

@TTC0123 The strips won't tell you that, even if they turn positive. Do you bbt? unless you do a blood test that's one of the only ways to find out for sure.

No worries at all! Always open ears to more knowledge! I don’t bbt no but after reading so much about it one went into my Amazon basket today so maybe that will shed some light next month if this month is unlucky! Thanks for your reply ☺️
