Possible breakthrough bleeding - need some advice

Hi all, I’m new here and really hoping someone can give me some advice. This month I felt what I was sure was implantation cramping at 7dpo, and when what I thought was AF arrived early at 12dpo I was obviously very disappointed, but this has been a really weird period - day 1 brown spotting, day 2 medium flow that was a mix of red and brown blood which tapered off that night and then 3 more days of stop start brown spotting. I have never had a period like this - I always flow heavy immediately and for two days, then a day of medium and another day of light bleeding. I’ve read that that it’s possible that this could be breakthrough bleeding as the luteal phase was short, and I’ve taken a HPT today which was BFN, but the spotting is only now stopping so could be too early? The reason that I’m desperate to know is because we were about to start fertility treatment and I have an HSG booked for Tuesday which I know will destroy any potential pregnancy so unsure whether to cancel this and blow the £300 and lose another month over something which may all be in my head! If anyone out there can help I’d be so grateful to hear your advice.

I had spotting in my last pregnancy a couple of days before af was due as i usually would then it stopped. I got a fairly clear positive the day af was due. I would think the bfn is probably correct im afraid however someone is bound to come along and prove me wrong any second fingers crossed

Thanks DBoo, I’m sure you’re probably right, just so nervous that if there’s even the tiniest chance I should cancel the HSG test.? What’s really odd is that pelvic ultrasound at 4dpo showed a perfectly normal thickness endometrium so I can’t figure out how there could be so little bleeding!

I agree with DBoo. If negative on day af due then accompanied with 5 days of on off bleeding I think it’s unlikely your pregnant. We all hope when we see the start of our period that it’s implantation bleeding but if combined with a negative pregnancy test I think it’s over. Maybe do a test Tuesday just to be sure in your mind

What is the hsg test? Is it worth ringing the place and explaining? They may test first to double check.

Last month i convinced myself i was pregnant. Period was a day late id tested for three days getting what i thought looked like faint lines. On the third day day after af was due i finally accepted that id there was a line it would be clearer by now then af started. I would never have believed that could happen before.

I’m sorry to hear that DBoo
The HSG is an X-ray exam of the uterus and Fallopian tubes - it’s insisted upon before starting IVF. Weirdly the brown spotting is starting up again now - wish I knew what was going on in there!

Hello. Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but I got a bfn the day before my period was due, period came the next day and I had a couple of days of fairly light bleeding so thought I was out for this month. On Friday something told me to take a test and it was positive. Now no idea what's going on and off to the early pregnancy unit on Tuesday.

CritterTamer · 15/04/2018 18:48

Congratulations Muffin! Hope everything works out for you xxx

Thank you, if I'm honest I'm not holding out much hope.
