Hello, I'm new here so bare with me just getting the hang of all the abbreviations...starting TTC and am a bit overwhelmed with the amount of different pre-pregnancy vitamins/folic acid tablets out there. Was just wondering if anyone could recommend a particular brand or one that includes everything? Smile

My doctor has told me just folic acid and vitamin d are recommended by nhs. Some woman have reported issues with cycles on pregnacare and they are quite expensive. You can buy a combined folic acid and vitamin d tablet from boots that aren’t too expensive.

@Mrsjones17 Okay great thank you, I did think they seemed quite expensive. Is it just Boots own brand?

Yeah boots own brand. Personally I found vitamin d tablets upset my stomach so I now use a spray instead but I have a very sensitive tummy!

JustLikeTheySaid · 13/04/2018 14:04

Pregnacare totally messed up my cycle - perfect 30 day cycles suddenly became greater than 40 days and last month I didn't have a period at all!

My GP said folic acid and vit d is all that's needed unless you already know you have a deficiency.

Leonora94 · 13/04/2018 14:17

Okay brilliant thank you both for your help, I don't want to take something that starts messing up my cycle as I've only just got regular and at a point where I can start ttc. Will venture to Boots on my way home from work!

I just took folic acid when TTC. Once I got BFP I took pregnacare for the first trimester, then just vitamin D after 13 weeks.

Stephisaur · 13/04/2018 14:30

I have the boots own folic acid tablets :) I really need to get myself some vitamin D too as I wasn’t aware that this was also recommended! That’ll be boots own for me too :) x

Leonora94 · 13/04/2018 14:35

Trips to Boots all round then Smile Should you not carry on taking folic acid and vitamin D after you get a BFP or is it best to move on to a more specialised ones?

GP said carry on throughout (folic acid stops at the end of the first trimester) but as and when I'm lucky enough to fall pregnant I will double check!

I got my vit d stupidly cheap from Holland and Barrett in the penny sale.

Leonora94 · 13/04/2018 14:45

I didn't think of Holland and Barrett will pop in see if there doing a penny sale. I'm super excited but also terrified about starting to try but from lurking and reading other comments I gather it's a normal feeling. Good Luck @JustLikeTheySaid !

I have the Seven Seas Trying For A Baby Vitamins I take them with my evening meal no stomach issues with them and normally I have stomach issues with vitamin/herbal stuff. They have iron, folic acid and vitamin D. I decided to try ones with Iron in as I'm vegetarian so a little extra iron wasn't going to do me any harm.

Leonora94 · 13/04/2018 15:12

I'm veggie too Smile thanks for the recommendation!

Seven seas completely muck up my cycle, adding on 8 ish days to an already longer than average cycle! I now use boots follic acid with vit d in.

Moole · 13/04/2018 16:10

I've actually found pregnacare to be really good. I guess it's just down to personal experience. It's worth a go. Most of them have all similar levels of the vitamins and minerals if you read the boxes. An own brand one is probably just as good.

Leonora94 · 13/04/2018 18:14

Thanks for all your help, I’ve just bought Boots own folic acid & vitimin D will let you know how I get on!
