Dates confusion

Hi

My periods have been all over the place due to breastfeeding.

I had a normal period in January. On February 4th I spotted for a few days with one day of heavy bleeding.

Period was due on 4th March. Did a IC on 6th March and got a Bfp. Had bloods taken on the 8th, 14th and 20th of March and hcg levels were rising as expected.

Went for a scan on the 5th April (as mw wasn’t convinced the 4th feb bleed was a proper period) expecting to be told I was 8+4 but they dated me as 6+6. Heartbeat seen and was no concerns on the trace.

But I have a few concerns.

If I was only 6+6 on the 5th April then that means I ovulated around the 2nd March. Would I have then got a bfp 4 days later? Bloods 6 days after showing Hcg?

Could my dates be correct and the baby not developing properly?

Is it possible the sonography measured inaccurately? She said the scans are not 100% accurate and it could possibly catch up to match my dates.

My worry is that they have booked my 12 week scan according to these dates. If the baby has ‘caught up’ and measures to my lmp, I will be 14+1 and too late for the NT screening.

I’m driving myself mad with worry. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

By the sounds of it you just ovulated late (common when BFing and you have already said your periods are all over the place). By the sounds of it you just had a long follicular phase that cycle (which is the part that changes in length during irregular cycles).

I do not think you can back date the scan the way you are because you didn't have a period start 16th Feb so you cant work out when you ovulated same way as usual as you don't know how long your follicular phase was for that cycle.

If you are worried about missing the NT screening you can either go private or push for an earlier scan, the dating scan in which they do the NT screening takes place between 11 weeks and 13+6 weeks so you could explain you want a 11 week scan (make out your out the country between 12-14 weeks if you are worried about explaining your reasons!)

To try and explain what I mean with the follicular phase a bit more...

I have PCOS which means my follicular phase can be all over the show! Sometimes I ovulate at around CD12 but it can be as late as CD25. With DS when I went by my LMP for EDD I should have been due 1st August but both my 7 week scan and 12 week scan put EDD at 27th July. They often go by LMP for EDD at first to give a rough idea for when to book everything in as most people ovulate at CD14 but if you think about it, a baby doesn't start actually developing until fertilisation (not during AF!) so those with follicular phases that differ to the average will find that they have a DD from their scans that differ from their LMP.

Thank you.

I do understand (I think, this is my 4th pregnancy and baby) but I thought pregnancy tests picked up hcg 2 weeks after ovulation(meaning 4 weeks pregnant even though you’re only 2) so going by scan dates when I took the hpt/had bloods taken the egg had barely even fertilised!

Im so worried there’s going to be something wrong 😭
I think I’ll book a private scan for when I think I’ll be 12 weeks and go from there.

Not necessarily, I got a strong BFP at 7dpo with DS with just a regular Asda home brand PT (which is why now I am constantly POAS throughout my TWW!)

TBF the scans aren't that accurate until the dating scan at 12 weeks but honestly they wont be more than a few days either side wrong.

If you are worried just book in at 11 weeks as they can do the NT screening from 11 weeks and if your baby's dates are closer to your LMP DD then you will still be before the 14 week cut off for it
