PCOS is so cruel!

So im now late for my period, I've been quite lucky the last 6 cycles have been 5 weeks long. Yay- periods are regular! This is my first month actively TTC and my cycle is now 5 weeks and 3 days... and I'm getting stark white BFNs. I know in the grand PCOS scheme of things 3 days over is not much (I used to have 3 periods a year) but its such a tease!!! I am totally kidding myself that I have allllll the early pregnancy symptoms and yet BFNs. I'm just moaning really. Any one else with PCOS need to moan too?

@SharedLife. Hands up over here! I never know what going on with mine! In the last 6 months or so my shortest has been 26 days and my longest 45! It's a massive difference, which is a pain in the ass. Are you seeing anyone for your PCOS? I have a gynae appointment at the end of the month - mind you, I expect they will say "You're a bit fat, go home" lol x

OrangeSmartie90 · 08/04/2018 18:07

I've just finished a 48day cycle - I hate just not knowing when I'm ovulating or when AF is going to show....spending loads of money on opks.......
Anyone tried Angus castus to try and regulate? I'm not sure whether to try it or not. My cycles since coming of the pill in august seem to be getting longer and longer. Before the pill I could have cycles as long as 78 days!!

peachesarenom · 08/04/2018 18:45

Metformin and inofolic worked for me xxx

SharedLife · 08/04/2018 21:17

I haven't tried Angus Castus, though read good things about it. I've never had any treatment or advice other than- lose weight....Hmm

Totally get this. I had four regular cycles and thought hurrah! Things are working so let’s get going! First month ttc had a very slight bleed at what should have been implantation time and then af was 2.5 weeks late. This “cycle” I’m not sure I’ve ovulated. FFS.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 08/04/2018 21:40

@peachesarenom. Did Metformin help you get pregnant? I'm thinking of asking the gynae when I see him if I can go on it.

peachesarenom · 08/04/2018 21:45

Hi LookingAtTheStars89 I think I was on 2 x 500mg metformin for 5 months and I was on inofolic sachets 2 x sachets a day for 6 weeks before my bfp. Sadly lost at 11 weeks, prolly due to food poisoning, but I'm back on inofolic now. Also, if you happen to be a but bigger like myself you're supposed to get 5mg dose of folic acid on repeat prescription from your GP. I didn't realise that till I met the mid-wife!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 08/04/2018 21:50

@peachesarenom. Yeah I get the 5mg from my Dr. already. I had a mmc in August and I wasn't told about the 5mg until I saw the midwife, which is ridiculous as you're like 8 or 9 weeks by that time! I read somewhere that PCOSers need the higher folic acid dose - not sure how true that is though.

peachesarenom · 08/04/2018 22:18

I'm sorry for your loss, onto the 🌈 for both of us!

The inofolic was recommended by my GP based on what her gynae friends were telling her so worth asking them at your appointment. Can I ask why you have the appointment? I was just being referred when I got my BFP.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 08/04/2018 22:41

@peachesarenom. I'm being referred because according to my recent progesterone tests, I'm not ovulating :-( which is a bit shit when you're trying for a baby!! My last test was

peachesarenom · 08/04/2018 22:44

Oh no! It's hard to get the right day isn't it, when cycles are irregular!

SharedLife · 09/04/2018 02:30

I wasn't told about the 5mg of folic acid until booking in appointment with my last pregnancy 2 years ago- unfortunately st 12cweek scan we found out baby had acrania so we had to terminate.
peaches can i ask, what is the inofolic?

@SharedLife. It's unfair as it's not information that's readily available. I've had children before and I still had no idea that some people were put on higher doses of folic acid - no one ever tells you!

peachesarenom · 09/04/2018 11:28

SharedLife It is 2g of myo-inositol and 200mcg folic acid in each sachet and you take two sachets a day. In the uk it is sold by pharmasure. Even though it was recommended by my gp after she spoke to her gynae friends I was unsurr about buying it on tge internet. On their website it says it is in some drug catalogue and you can order it in the pharmacy so I went to boots and the pharmasicist checked the catalogue for me and said yes it was there but boots only allows them to order certain things and it wasn't on boots list. Anyway, I took the plunge and it worked. I think you should speak to your GP and see if they know any gynae specialists or try and get an appointment with a gynae yourself?

SharedLife · 09/04/2018 15:48

Thanks peaches from what I've read inositol when taken with the folic acid also further decreases the chances of a neural tube defect, so looks like its a good idea all round!

When i have seen the gynecologist in the past tgey would offer no help at all until i lost weight- in fact all they offered was the mirena coil! When im TTC!

Oh I know SharedLife I think the NHS is a mess at the mo, we must all vote Labour next general election. I'm in public service so I know. I can't tell you how badly I was treated in A&E when I miscarried. But I also know that when you're pushed to your limits you just can't meet your own personal standards. I hope I never have to go through that again!

Moxska · 09/04/2018 21:41

I have PCOS also and had really irregular periods. Went from hardly ever having one to a point where I had some sort of bleeding everyday.

Went back on metformin (had stopped as old drs were refusing to actually test for pcos) and also progesterone only pill but stopped that to ttc. Also read that it doesn't help as that kind of pill builds up mucus which is bad when you have a weaker lining anyway.

Have had a period now and hopefully getting a refferal from my dr tomorrow to see a gynacologist just to rule out any other issues then its full steam ahead. Have DTD a few times trying to work out my fertile window but hard when periods are all over the place!!

SharedLife · 10/04/2018 08:51

Im too late now to find out im pregnant while still be getting BFNs based on when we DTD but the fact i havent come on yet is giving me this annoying flicker of hope!
