Short Luteal Phase... anyone?

Hi ladies, I stopped the pill the end of December and it took just over 6 weeks for my first AF, I have been quite regular since then, a 27 day cycle, then most recently a 25 day cycle. However I am having short LP’s of 10 and 9 days on top of the shorter Cycle lengths. Ovulation has been confirmed from positive opks and bbt tracking, I seem to ovulate between CD15-CD17.
I have been taking B6 and Angus castus since Jan, and neither have helped! I am going for progesterone bloods this month.

Anyone else in the same boat and can offer advice? Smile

I went to visit the gynaecologist for the same issue and she prescribed cyclogest between ovulation and period to lengthen the luteal phase. She did a scan to look at my ovaries to confirm when she thought I'd ovulate first (she told me that most people who think they have a short LP ovulate early in their cycle), talked to me a bit about my pre-menstrual symptoms and diagnosed short LP due to low progesterone.

Had a chemical first month on cyclogest and now waiting to see if I'm more lucky in my second month. Tested this morning as instructed and it was a BFN 12 dpo so I haven't got a good feeling about this month. My BFP last month didn't happen until 14dpo but that ended badly!

I hope the progesterone tests go well - either that's not the issue or you can fix it quickly. Good luck! X

Thank you @DoraNora and sorry about the chemical! Wishing you the best of luck and fingers crossed you get a bfp! X

Thank you! Should have said, B6 brought ovulation forward for me, but didn't help with luteal phase so cycles just got shorter.

Good luck to you too, I hope you get some answers x

I seem to be ovulate right on time and not too easy or too late which is good, but unlucky to have a 9 day LP in a 25 day cycle! But on to the next month and hopefully we both get better news x

Hi

Not got any advice to offer I’m afraid, but I’m in the same boat with LP being 10-11 days long. Should I be getting this checked at the GP?

DoraNora · 07/04/2018 09:19

10-11 is supposed to be fine, and anything under 10 something to get checked out x

Twiglet2353 · 07/04/2018 09:39

I've had this for the past 6 months since TTC. I normally get a positive OPK on CD14/15/16 and then the latest I go is 8 days before starting to spot.

I've had my bloods done this past month wit the GP and they show I'm not ovulating - low progesterone and oestradiol. I'm back in a couple of weeks to discuss the next steps, but my local guidelines require 2 years of TTC before a referral to the fertility clinic, so now I'm worried I'll be left in limbo a bit!

I guess my take home from this would be - if you get positive OPKs it doesn't necessarily mean you're ovulating, and also if you are concerned ask your GP for bloods.

Good luck x

@MrsO28 I think 10 days seems to be the minimum. When I had a telephone appointment with my doctor yesterday, she was not worried about this but I still have to go for the day 21 tests, although the way my 21 day works I’m actually on holidays so I won’t get this month 😔 I think you having 10-11 days is perfectly fine! X

@Twiglet2353 Sorry to hear your in the same boat, I seem to start spotting at 9 or 10dpo then the flow starts the next day! It’s quite frustrating! Although my bbt seems to confirm ovulation each month, are you tracking?

We have been TTC for 3 month, not long I know but still worrying!

Thank you, I hope you get yours sorted and you aren’t left in limbo and having to wait! I would push for supplements or the cream x

I had this. What dose b6 are you taking? It did take me 11 months to get pregnant (and that was quite a lot of cycles given they were 24 days long) but I did get there eventually! The month I took a really high dose b6 I conceived. Could be a coincidence but worth a try.

Tinker315b · 07/04/2018 18:03

@Magpie24 I’m taking 100mg, been taking these since Jan, I know when I sit and think about it this is only my 3rd cycle since stopping the pill. I was just under the impression I would get pregnant straight away, naive I suppose!

Hi @Tinker315b, i'm in a similar boat to you. I have luteal phase 10 - 12 days max. I read that upping your vit-C might help to lengthen it.
The first month I read this I did everything I could to eat more strawberries, papaya, bell peppers, kiwi. And my period had the audacity to come early! Bloody hell I thought. But then the next month I had a 14-day luteal phase - my longest in years!
It may have been coincidence but I'm trying to stick to the high vit-C diet while we're TTC.

Tinker315b · 08/04/2018 11:09

@gemwhitt I wish I had 11 or 12 days! Yes I might try the vit C as it won’t do any harm anyway, thank you! X
