Is short cycles a bad thing?

My cycles seem to be getting shorter & shorter. 28,27,26 sometimes 25 days. Is this a sign of not ovulating? Thanks...

I've never heard it's a bad thing, can't see how it would mean you're not ovulating.

Mine have always been 24-27 days and I got pregnant within 1 month with both pregnancies.

I have regular 24 day cycles and seem to be ovulating fine! Before I went on the pill a few years ago they were 35 days. Just pleased now I am TTC they are shorter!!

A short cycle (within reason) is not a bad thing if the woman's cycle has always been short. Some women never notice they have a short cycle until they start trying to conceive.

As we age cycles can get shorter and eventually increasingly start skipping ovulation. However the shorter cycles can start as early as 35 (mine did, and I had no trouble conceiving naturally at 39), so I certainly wouldn't assume shorter cycles mean you are not ovulating. It does mean you are ovulating earlier in your cycle, so don't assume day 14 obviously.

@tawdry thanks. That's what had my questioning it I had read a post about aging & cycles becoming shorter & without ovulation which made me wonder if this was normal (am 26) took a long time to concieve DD despite short cycles!

Ah, well at 26 age is unlikely to be a factor! I know things like thyroid, fibroids, weight etc can affect cycle length, but it sounds like you just naturally have a cycle slightly less than the month.

It could mean you have a short luteal phase. The egg needs time to implant before your period begins. 12-14 is meant to be best for this with anything under 10 being not ideal.

@seven thanks for that, hasn't even thought about it.. but would make a lot of sense.

Didn't do any ovulation tests but I conceived on cycle 5 of all 25 day cycles after coming off the mini pill. And I'm a fair bit older than you OP. So it's not automatically a bad thing!

At least you get more chances to conceive over a year. Longer cycles meant that I skipped some months altogether! I think as long as the time between ov and af is at least ten days, it's fine.
