Experiences of Chem Preg/Early Miscarriage

I don’t know where else to turn, and although I’ve found some ancient threads to refer to maybe it’s best just to post for more up-to-date advice specific to me.

TTc no. 2 after miscarriage at 7 weeks in Jan. DC1 was an easy bfp after cycle 1. Although I’m older (by 3 years) - I never expected this emotional rollercoaster, and I’m in bits. Any sensible Mumsnet advice?

The situation:
Tested 1 day before AF due and got a faint bfp on a FRER

Tested on the day AF due got a bfn (supermarket own brand)

Tested 2 days later clearblue digi - ‘pregnant 1-2 weeks’ (would have preferred FRER for comparison but sold out)!

2 days later (supermarket own brand) - extremely faint line (practically non-existent) and this morning the same squint line.

I would expect 6 days late to have much stronger positive lines as in my previous pregnancies.

I don’t ‘feel’ very pregnant, and very pessimistic. I know I’m asking the impossible - but WHAT is going on? Anyone had any experience of this?

I have attached pictures (which all look much darker since). Has anyone who has been in the same boat, how did it turn out?

FYI: I have excluded the bfn and the cleardigi Js died.

I’ve been stalking old threads, and it seems that the Nhs won’t do anything until 8 weeks. I’m 4+6 now

My gut tells me a chem preg/early miscarriage - AF will be a week or two late and very heavy. Should I wait it out?

@KurlyWurly88 have you been to your doctor?
They can do a blood test to check your hcg levels. Also with the lines not getting darker your levels could be staying around the same which happens when it's ectopic.
Have you been having any symptoms pf it being ectopic?

Daisymalone · 04/04/2018 09:47

I know people will say that you can't go on the darkness of the line and that any line means you're pregnant, but in my experience I would expect the lines to be much darker at 6days late. My lines did not get much darker over the course of a week and I unfortunately miscarried a few days later. That is just my experience though, it doesn't necessarily mean it will happen to you, I've got my fingers crossed for you x

KurlyWurly88 · 04/04/2018 09:59

No - I’m thinking about it. I have a feeling that they will tell me to wait a week at this early stage.

I’m no confidence in the doctor - they always seem to fob me off (easily).

I’ve no pregnancy symptoms as such, and not in any pain.

I’m worried sick - this is a wanted pregnancy, but it just doesn’t feel right!

Thanks @Daisymalone - I think we are typing at the same time!

I’ve a feeling this will happen - want it to be sooner rather than later though.....

It’s the waiting that is killing me...!

Sorry you're in this horrible limbo.

My experience is that I got a faint BFP about 3 days before AF was due. Over the next few days, the tests didn't really get any darker and in the end, on the day AF was due I went for a HCG test (not in the UK so easy to request)

Results came back that I was indeed preg, but the doctor stressed that it was 'very, very early'. I then started bleeding whilst I was sat in the waiting room waiting for a repeat blood test 48 hours later. When those results came back my HCG was already practically back to zero.

My period wasn't noticeably heavier that month and I got another BFP two cycles later.

QueenofmyPrinces · 04/04/2018 11:34

I had an early miscarriage in that I lost it two weeks after my initial BFP.

About a week after my first BFP (day my period was due) the lines started getting fainter. People kept saying “a line is a line” and the strength of the line brand nothing etc etc but I knew it wasn’t going to end well.

I continued to test over the next 7 days and the lines got fainter and fainter until eventually the FRER and CB Digital were both negative.

On the day my tests came back negative I went to see my GP who said it was an early miscarriage and she would expect me to start bleeding soon. She said that if in a weeks time I still hadn’t had any bleeding then I was to go back and she’d send me for a scan.

As it was I started bleeding the next morning.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 04/04/2018 12:11

I got a faint line on a FRER which in a week didn't get any darker, so I knew it was a chemical basically. It took about a week after that for my period to start - I triggered it with a vigorous shag in the end so I could get my cycle reset.

KurlyWurly88 · 04/04/2018 12:54

Thank you for sharing your stories.

In my heart, I think this is a miscarriage.

I’ve booked a doctors appointment, but they can’t see me until Friday, so it’s a waiting game.

I’m all over the place....

I've recently gone through the same - faint positive Wednesday, strong positives Thursday and Friday, no test Saturday and then getting weaker on Sunday. I started bleeding on Monday, heavier Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Sunday I rang our EPU and the advised wait a week and take another test - they said if I went to the GP or to them, all they'd do is a blood test that day and 48 hours later, then 3 days for results - so same time frame!

I know it's all over, so I'm not holding out hope.

I had a really clear 2nd line when I was pregnant with my first and I kept getting them and it turned out I had a blighted ovum however my 2nd pregnancy I got really feint lines for just over a week just as feint as yours. I went the Drs and they told me I probably wasn't pregnant... anyway fast forward just under 2 years and I've got a perfectly healthy LB from it. Everyone's hormones levels are different all that matters is that they are doubling. Yours could just be low, which might be normal for you (aslong as they are doubling). Try and keep positive, everything could be fine.

Fingers crossed for you doll x

Back in 2014, DH and I were ttc our first and after three cycles, we caught. I tested early and found out I think around 12dpo and the line was faint but then it started getting darker over the next few days. However, a couple of days after getting the dark lines, I started bleeding and called epu who said to wait it out. I carried on bleeding, it was tmi but very clotty and painful. I hate the term chemical because, although early, it still was a loss but I think it's the body's natural way of dealing with things. My cycle went haywire after it and I skipped ov for a while. The good news is, that November, I got terribly faint lines on frers. He's asleep upstairs right now :) FX for you.

GreenMeerkat · 04/04/2018 21:33

Mine were faint for about 10 days after my first BFP. In fact, I actually wrote a post on here very similar to this one as I was worried they weren't getting darker.

Now 10.5 weeks. Saw wriggly blob and Hb on scan at 9 weeks.

I'd try and stop testing so much as it'll drive you mad. If it was a CP I'd have thought you'd have had your period by now as you are a fair few days late.

Maybe wait a few days and get another FRER. Don't use a digi!!

KurlyWurly88 · 05/04/2018 09:05

Aww - thank you @GreenMeercat, @MatGratgarlik and @Emilyyy really kind of you to respond and reassure me. It means a lot from women who have experienced it.

I hope I end up with the same story with the successful pregnancies, but I really don’t know.

I think I’ve accepted that it really is out of my hands. I don’t have any more tests in the house. I walked past a Boots yesterday and didn’t buy a test! I couldn’t face staring at another faint line and getting upset/worried.

I wish I could know what is going on. Even if the docs test hormone levels, like @Wellthisisunexpected it’s the same time frame of waiting. How are you getting on? When is your week over? Thinking of you.

I had this during our last IVF cycle. Faint positive on a FRER at 9dp5dt, getting stronger (though still faint) over the next 2 days then fading to a BFN by 14dp5dt.

The waiting to see was awful. I do feel for you. I think next time I would not use FRER and would just wait until after period due before testing, because I would rather not have seen the second line at all than have that excitement and then disappointment.

You can only wait and see. You could have ovulated later than you think. I would ask for the blood test at your doctor's. Or you can get it done privately if you can afford it.

2furbabies · 05/04/2018 15:10

@KurlyWurly88
Hey huni sorry your going through this xx
I thought the same! I didn't even get a positive test until I was 9 days late! I ovulated much later that month randomly and then the bean took ages to implant she's asleep in her bedroom now so fingers crossed for you xx

KurlyWurly88 · 10/04/2018 21:47

Well - a follow up for those who may be googling late at night!

Exactly 6 days after that first faint line, I starting spotting. Not heavily, but 2 days later has progressed to a period like bleed.

After only a week this very short pregnancy is over. I’m genuinely okay - in my heart I never ‘felt’ pregnant nor had any symptoms as I’ve done previously.

This simply wasn’t meant to be. I’m back to doctor tomorrow for a follow up, but hopefully I won’t need any ‘medical’ assistance and my body can get back to normal.

Mumsnet is so great for support, help and advice. Those who replied - thank you so much!
