Bleeding early on but still pregnant?

Hi mumsnet,

This is new for me so I hope i'm uploading correctly. I will try and keep it short and sweet - me and s.o were having unprotected sex during ovulation. Took a pregnancy test on 14 dpo and got a faint positive. The next day i bled - for 2.5 days i bled, lightly. It's been a week since i stopped bleeding and I took another test - still positive.

So, to summarise:
14 dpo - positive (faint)
15 dpo - bleeding
16 dpo - bleeding
17 dpo - light bleeding for AM
22 dpo - clear positive

Has anyone had this type of experience? I assumed that the bleeding was a chemical pregnancy as it was light red blood and more than just spotting. I guess i'm just looking for other experiences that were similar (although i know we're all different). Should I assume that today's positive is just HCG levels that haven't returned to normal or is it likely a positive now is real?

Thank you for any experiences shared and advice offered x

Was the positive a stronger line than the first one?

hollyjelly · 02/04/2018 20:07

Annoyingly it was a digital test - pregnant 1-2 weeks. I'm going to have to test tomorrow on a line one, the same brand as previous (i think FRER).

Could have been implantation bleeding. Did you have pain or just bleeding? It doesn't necessarily mean the worst.

I had what I thought was a period but it was lighter and only lasted around 3 days (it was more than spotting). As it was lighter than normal I took a test which was positive.
The doctors have said that as the test was positive after the bleeding had stopped they treat it as a normal pregnancy.
I'm nearly 9 weeks now and haven't had any more bleeding.

Thanks both, that's helpful and interesting to hear. I'm going to the doctors ASAP so will hopefully know soon - fingers crossed all is okay! X

Bleeding in early pregnancy is actually quite common. With my first dd I bled in week 4 (assumed it was a period - in irregular and didn't test). Worked out I was pregnant when 5 weeks then bled heavily. Hideous. Clots etc way worse than a period. They sent me to early pregnancy unit and thought I'd miscarried but then my hcg continued to rise and at 6 weeks pregnancy was confirmed. I bled on and off (lightly) till 9 weeks. But she's now nearly three!!

Could be breakthrough bleeding, which is around the time your period would have been due. It's not all that uncommon either. I had red spotting when my period was due, but all was fine and I'm 18 weeks now.

I bled throughout - started at 5 weeks and bled on and off until 25 weeks. Everything was absolutely fine. I just ended up having lots of scans

I bled quite a lot from week 9 to 12. Everything was fine and doctors couldn't really explain it. Have you done another test?

hollyjelly · 03/04/2018 19:33

Had a blood test today so am waiting on that but also took a FRER and the result was positive very dark line, so all looking like still pregnant. I'm having a very minor amount of spotting which doctor thinks is fine.. Not ready to relax until my hcg results come in and they say all good! Thank you for sharing your experiences, makes this moment feel less lonely x
