So my Fiance and I are trying for a baby and my period is currently 8 days late. I get cramps and need to wee a LOT more than normal and I already have nausea but it's been worse lately. Thing is my tests have come back negative and I have had blood tests for other things.. would it be any blood test that can pick up pregnancy or is it a specific one? My sister is currently 18 weeks pregnant... Am I maybe having a phantom pregnancy? I have had like 5 tests each negative but they are immediately negative then after waiting the allotted time it stays negative. I am on a fair bit of medication including pain killers and anti sickness tablets so I have stopped taking those until I know. I was told I could keep taking the anti sickness tablets until I know I'm pregnant then when I am they will switch me to one that is pregnancy friendly if I need it. I am hoping to get to the drs ASAP but it's usually a 2 week wait unless it's classed as an emergency and it's what they consider an emergency (I don't know if this would count. To me it's an emergency because I need to know and get my medication in check so I don't potentially harm my baby but it's if THEY consider it to be an emergency)

Why else could I be getting symptoms but negative results? First time posting. Thanks in advance for any help and reading this.

There are about a dozen reasons you could be getting "symptoms" but not be pregnant. PMT, withdrawal from hormonal contraception, hormonal imbalance, tummy bug/mild virus, random anovulatory cycle, your mind and the power of suggestion. If blood and urine tests are negative for HCG that's considered pretty definitive.

Anon14992 · 01/04/2018 20:48

Ahh ok thank you, that's what I thought but my period still hasnt arrived and I haven't been on contraception for a good 18 months, was ill abut 3-4 weeks ago, I thought possibly power of suggestion but would that really make my body stop my period?

A blood test will only confirm a pregnancy if they test the blood for HCG... A blood test for other things will only test for those things.

Book an appointment with your GP - if you explain your situation they may arrange to see you quickly. Although if a recent hpt was negative it's unlikely (although possible) that a blood test will come back positive. Good luck.

Wellthisunexpected · 01/04/2018 21:16

They don't automatically test for pregnancy every time they do a blood test, only if required. So if your other things weren't pregnancy related then it won't have been tested for.

Anon14992 · 01/04/2018 21:23

It wasn't pregnancy related it was things like my liver function. When I had the blood test I was due on any day so didnt mention it as I thought I would be on. I am also more exhausted and my temperature keeps spiking then dropping.

nausea seems go be getting worse but i suffer from it anyway but 8 days and counting still no period.

OP posts:
Wellthisunexpected · 01/04/2018 22:11

Then they won't have tested for pregnancy.

Lilymossflower · 01/04/2018 22:14

I think you need to do the pregnancy Wed test in another week or so X

FaithEverPresent · 01/04/2018 22:19

Your body can’t delay your period but it can delay ovulation if you’re ill, so that is a possibility. Blood tests would look specifically for the pregnancy hormone so unless specified, it wouldn’t have been done. I think this qualifies as an emergency from a GP point of view because you do need to know ASAP if you’re pregnant because of the drugs.

What tests have you done? Have you done more sensitive tests like First Response Early Respones?

FaithEverPresent · 01/04/2018 22:19

response! I’m tired, lost the ability to spell!

Anon14992 · 01/04/2018 22:26

I haven't done first response but I am going to get one tomorrow and see how that goes. I will also ring the dr and find out. I havent had my meds for a few days but I really need to know.

If you’re getting in touch with the doctor anyway, perhaps you could suggest putting you on pregnancy friendly nausea meds now (if you need to continue taking them), then you won’t need to worry that they’ll be doing any harm.
Good luck 😊

I have just taken a clear blue test first wee of the morning and it says negative so im trying to get an appointment at the drs because my period is now 10 to 11 days late.

Anon14992 · 03/04/2018 09:11

sorry for the extra posts. the earliest I can get seen is thursday afternoon. I should be fine to keep taking my meds right? I have spent days in agony and feeling like I could vomit because I havent taken pain killers or anti sickness tablets but even clear blue says im not pregnant so tablets? or is it best to still hold off until a dr can see me?

OP posts:
FaithEverPresent · 03/04/2018 20:46

I would keep taking your meds. I was in a similar situation with painkillers. Most drugs only become an issue when the placenta takes over. What drugs are you taking?

Clear blue aren’t the most sensitive of tests so I would definitely try to get a FRER or a Superdrug test (with the purple dye).

Anon14992 · 04/04/2018 12:06

It's the anti sickness tablets that worry me and I will see what the doctors say tomorrow. Still no sign of my period.

OP posts:
14StoneInADay · 04/04/2018 12:13

What anti sickness meds are you on? I took loads of different ones throughout pregnancy for HG.

Anon14992 · 05/04/2018 11:06

cyclazine/metaclopramide atm was cinnerazine.

So next step is a blood test but she was telling me to get onto contraception if i dont want a baby (I never said that and I didnt get to correct her because she kept talking then hung up) if the bloods are negative I was told to just wait for my period.

OP posts:
14StoneInADay · 06/04/2018 22:59

I was prescribed both of those during pregnancy, and another I can't remember but would know if I saw the name. Was finally given ondansatron which was literally a life saver!
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

14StoneInADay · 06/04/2018 23:01

Sorry, excuse me. I mean, good luck with getting the result you're hoping for x

Anon14992 · 07/04/2018 00:32

Thats ok and thank you x

Currently just over 2 weeks late but tests are still negative (no FR yet) guess I will just have to see what the blood test says but my nausea has been so much worse especially the past 3 or 4 days.

OP posts:
Anon14992 · 17/04/2018 20:58

So I had my blood test and when I rang up they wouldn't give me my results (they usually do once a dr has signed them off) but this time they said to me they needed to talk over the phone and wanted to ring me a week tomorrow. They then rang back and said they needed it to be face to face and I'm booked in Thursday but am to ring tomorrow first thing to try to get seen tomorrow.

Thing is if I wasn't pregnant or if nothing was wrong they wouldn't be wanting me to come in would they? Now I'm not saying I am pregnant I'm just wondering if something must be going on one way or another as they aren't telling me over the phone like they usually do and then they said it NEEDED to be face to face.
