Trying to conceive before periods have restarted

LucieB · 05/08/2004 09:31

Thought I would create a new thread for this. For many reasons, I am keen to conceive quickly after having had my dd (now nearly 6 mths). Am bf her once a day (last feed of the day) but have not had an AF yet. Having said that, I have had crampy pains on and off, and a sharp pain down one side of my tummy earlier this week. Trying to bd at least every 3 days. Any tips for success would be great - as would any success stories!! Best of luck to everyone trying to conceive at the moment....

My friend's mum had my mum's friend's little sister due to not realising she could get pg 1)whilst bfing and 2)before she got her periods back. She never had a period. Only thing to bear in mind is that you will find it hard to date the pg.

mummytosteven · 05/08/2004 09:37

friend's mums little sister even

LucieB · 05/08/2004 09:39

Anyone else out there who is planning the same? Thanks mummytosteven - I actually did a pg test earlier this week and it was negative. Have got to try to avoid getting too caught up in all this but would really like to be pg soon. As I said - there are many reasons for going for this small gap, including relocating and work situation.
By the way - have looked in Poundland for their cheap pg tests and have yet to find them. Who has bought them and from which branch?!! Maybe I am looking in the wrong place!!

I found the tests in a poundland in Exeter, but it is worth asking where they are. The 1st time I went in there were none left. So the 2nd time I bought about 7 packs!!!

I was given the advice to look there from one of the ttc threads I think.

By the way are you mad?? LOL

LucieB · 05/08/2004 15:09

No, I am not mad - just love babies and actually really love being pg. And right now am not in a particularly good job situation. Plus would like my kids to be close in age like I am with my siblings. This sounds really mad, but would LOVE to have twins this time round - then I would probably stop. Already have ds (23 mths) and dd (6 months) Just hope it happens soon - hoping the catch the first ovulation before my af begins again but not sure whether the one bf is going to delay things. My af restarted at 5 mths postpartum last time around....
Thanks for all your replies - and if there is anyone in a similar situation, would love to hear from you.
Will keep looking in Poundland - I am in SW London. Haven't ever seen them but that doesn't mean they don't have them from time to time.

Hi again LucieB - I'm in the same situation as you - except I'm BF 3 times a day. DD is 7.5 months and no sign of AF at all....
DH and I are trying to BD every 3 days too (he's in heaven!) but no signs yet. I think we'll be dropping another feed come September (DD will be 9 months then) so maybe AF will return then??

I'm going to start taking my temperature (see FertililyFriend.com) and examining my knickers.....!!

Hope we both catch our first ovulation and can have siblings for our dd's!

Hi LucieB - Just to make you jealous, I'm 18 pregnant with twins! And I have 2 other kids, a little older than yours though. Good luck with trying! xx

LucieB · 05/08/2004 20:33

Am very jealous smellymelly - any tips on conceiving twins?!!!!!
mit - any signs of your system getting back to normal? Late last week/early this week I had quite a lot of CM and tummy/back pain but that could be anything, I guess. BD every three days with a 23 mth ds and a 6 mth dd takes a lot of energy and committment especially as I am due to return to work very soon. Anyway, its worth it in the end! Keep the responses coming in and thanks so far for all your postings. MIT let me know how you get on - lets keep this thread going if we can....

Reading this thread with interest as im broody at the moment. I have a 15month age gap between my two and would love two more little ones, so twins would be great. Ive heard the older you get and the more pregnancies you have your more likely to have twins. But then again i was also told via a ring test that my baby was a girl and it came out a boy.

Good luck Lucie,

What does bd stand for? i cannot work it out!

smellymelly · 05/08/2004 20:45

CP3 - baby dancing is BD as in getting down to it!!

LucieB - When I conceived these twins is was 4 months before my wedding, so not great timing, we actually only BD the once, and I had a bath immediately. Also have only one tube as I had an ectopic last year - therefore, we think these 2 babies are a bit of a miracle!!

CP3 · 05/08/2004 20:48

Wonderful Smellymelly, what a lovely story, you must have been overjoyed when you found out.

Ive started reading the how yo get a girl thread but am confused now as i thought you BD'D on day 11 for a boy not a girl. Oh well we will just have to do it all the time and hope for the best.

LucieB · 05/08/2004 21:37

smellymelly - thats a wonderful story and yes, your twins are little miracles. Hope you are feeling well - when are they due?
CP3 - best of luck with it all. I have a boy and a girl and didn't do anything different the second time around. As you said, best to do it all the time and hope for the best
This is the first time ever in my life that I have wanted my AF to come on!!!

Hi Lucie

I've had lots of cramps - 4 times and about 4 weeks apart so I got very excited thinking I might be ovulating...we did lots of BD so I don't think I was. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a MW and she said it could just be my ovaries 'warming up' again after such a long holiday....so fingers crossed I'll start ovulating soon.

After today I'm not sure how much longer I'll be BF - yesterday and today my DD has bitten me at each feed. I'm trying to put a stop to it and have agreed with my DH and myself that I'll give it 7 days to sort itself out or I'm stopping. I know it seems harsh and I really want to carry on until a year but I had such a horrendous start to BF (didn't feed until 7 weeks, had mastitis 3 times, had other infections 3 times....it goes on & on!) that I promised myself I wouldn't carry on suffering if it became painful again. Up until yesterday it had been fine - no biting despite 2 razor sharp teeth in place. I know this is off topic but I got carried away!

On the positive side, if I do stop BF I might conceive a little sooner........ but I'd still rather BF until she's at least 1 so fingers crossed she'll learn to stop biting the boob that feeds her.

LucieB · 06/08/2004 13:22

MIT - best of luck with sorting the bf out. Sounds like you are in a bit of a quandry. If the bf really isn't working, you shouldn't beat yourself up about it. What is important is that you and the baby are happy.
Best of luck with the conceiving. I was getting excited about the cramps and CM mucus too, but am sure your friend the MW is right. I am only bf once a day so am hoping ovulation will start soon. With my ds I stopped completely rather than phasing it out and my AF resurfaced within a week! Fingers crossed! Keep hearing about women who have conceived whilst BF and before their af restarted but doesn't look like that will happen to me.

mit · 06/08/2004 18:46

So far so good today........we've had one feed so far with no biting so hopes are high...
Will keep you posted and if I stop BF I'll be sure to alert you somehow and we can time how long my period takes to come back!!

LucieB · 07/08/2004 13:54

Glad the biting seems to have stopped. I never experienced that with my ds as stopped bf at 4 months as was going back to work. DD hasn't any teeth yet and therefore I suspect it won't be an issue with her either. Do keep chatting and best of luck. Hopefully one of us will catch the first ovulation!

LucieB · 11/08/2004 13:35

Well my first AF after having dd (6 mths next week) started today. Hurried out to get my Persona sticks so I can start using it straight away. Guess I didn't catch first ovulation.... but my system is obviously getting back to normal now....

mit · 11/08/2004 18:25

That's great news Lucie! Now you can start trying and planning. Are you on 2 feeds a day at the moment or did I imagine that? If you're not bf can I ask how long ago you stopped, ie. how long it took for AF to arrive?
I think it's a very high hope to catch the first ovulation - so now you can really get cracking!
Keep me/us posted!

I am on one bf a day - in the evening and have been doing that for the past few weeks. I have cut down the bf gradually this time. With my ds I just went cold turkey which was fine for him but very uncomfortable for me. This AF is pretty heavy and am very crampy but I expect thats often the way with the first one you get post partum.
How are things going with you mit?

OP posts:
mit · 12/08/2004 14:33

We're doing fine. I'm still bf 3 times a day so realistically I'm not expecting af for a few more months, until I've at least cut down to 2 feeds a day. My dh and I have decided that bf is certainly more important to us than ttc so we'll just have to wait and see.
Hope you're not too uncomfortable with your af!
Keep me/us posted and have fun bding!

Just go for it LucieB. I never had a period between DD1 and this pregnancy. DD was 8 months old when I conceived and I wasn't bf that much. Never thought I'd become pregnant again so quickly. Beware though. I thought I'd had periods but it must have been implantation bleeding so I never even found out I was pg until 10 weeks gone.

I'm impressed at the 3 times a week though - where do you get the energy from

kelly0612 · 20/08/2004 13:47

am i still able to get pregnant even though i have no periods since i stopped taking micronor i hope so coz im enjoying the BD
