Unexpected BFP, then BFN, what is going on?!

I’m so confused right now!
I’ve had regular periods, albeit lighter, since I gave birth via EMC 7 months ago - despite exclusively breastfeeding. I’d missed two periods that I put down to breastfeeding, but then a few people asked if I might be pregnant. DH suggested that I do a test to rule it out and I had a very unexpected BFP (attached). When I took another two tests to confirm the next morning (CB and CBD), they were BFN. I thought false positives were nigh on impossible and now I’m confused! I used the tests correctly, I haven’t tested early as I’d be more than 8 weeks if so, and with a new baby, BD has been infrequent to say the least - and we were super careful!
I can’t get a GP appointment until the end of next week! Could it be some sort of miracle conception or something else? Confused

Hi, I could be completely wrong but the line looks a little bit odd. I’ve have tests results that look like this where a little bit of urine gets trapped between the clear plastic and the test strip and leaves a line.
I hope you get the result you would like.

Ahh thank you! I’d never used a pink dye one before and I only ever managed a faint line on a blue dye one. It is a terrible photo and was a lot more convincing in person, but that would make sense as to why the subsequent tests are negative!

Could have caught the tail end of a chemical ?

Grewia · 30/03/2018 19:58

I don’t think so. It’s been 8 weeks, so would have expected more positives...

@Grewia after a while the hcg gets so high that pregnancy tests don't read it properly. I would make the appointment and get bloods done as it could just be that your hcg is too high for accurate readings.

@HidCat that's not true at all! I did a test the day I gave birth and it was positive clear as day because I wanted to test that theory out haha! The line kind of looks like an evap from flooding the test. If it was a chemical you would have bled by now but could be a chance your earlier than you thought as you may of ovulated later x

@2furbabies it's the official guidance on several brands of pregnancy test. I haven't tried it myself but the guidance is there for a reason.

It’s not good news unfortunately. I’ve had bad cramps for a few days now and have started bleeding quite heavily. Not sure if that test was a true positive or not - if it was I’d have been 9 weeks now. Or maybe it’s a 9 week late very heavy period. Not sure if I should call the OOH GP or not - if it wasn’t a positive it’d be a waste of everyone’s time, but if it was I should probably get checked out..not sure what to do.

@Grewia I'm so sorry. I would speak to your gp as it's quite likely you've had an early
Miscarriage. They can then check and make sure there are no complications if so. I hope you're ok.

FrowningFlamingo · 01/04/2018 14:49

You need to be seen in your local early pregnancy unit. Search for it online as some are self referral some are GP referral.
It's important as they can check blood levels to check whether it was a pregnancy and if it was they will need to make sure everything has passed.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 01/04/2018 16:47

I think that's a bad test. The "positive" line is much too close to the control line. You can see that the control line is already shifted to the left relative to where it should be - it should be directly under the "C". A positive line would have been clearly to the left of the "T", not the right.
