Help! - Might I be pg? - Persona Question

I'm semi-regular so have changed my name for this. Have recently started using Persona again and although we are not ttc, dh and I did have sex on two red days this month (day 9 and day 10). My cycle is about 29 days usually. Afterwards I did notice a lot of CM some of which was pinkish but my monitor is saying that I am only just about to ovulate now (day 15), but there is no CM at all to speak of. My question is could my monitor have got it wrong and could I have ovulated early and therefore be pg?

Hi abitconfused, I have known my Persona to give strange readings, although have not been able to confirm whether it is right or not. On the Persona stick are there two blue lines? This is an indication of ovulation, in the same way as Ovulation Predictor Kits. I don't know whether increased CM is always present when ovulating, or whether it can happen when not ovulating - can anyone else shed any light on this? I believe that there is a Persona helpline, which may be worth ringing.

Not sure to be honest. I suppose it's always possible in any month that you could have an early/late ov but would have thought that in that case your persona wouldn't show an O day at all that month. If you've just started it again in the last couple of months, you will get more red days for a while (up to 6 months iirc) while it gets used to your cycle.

I think, but am not sure, that you'll only get an O day showing on your monitor if the test stick picks up signs of ovulation.

I hope someone more knowledgeable than me comes along soon.

A friend of mine got pregnant on persona - i think it went wrong because it gave her loads of green days right near ovulation. If you had sex on a red day 9 or 10 and your Ovulate on about day15 it is possible because they say sperm survive for about 5 days. Please dont take my advice as gospel though, i can only go by what i have heard. Do you mind if you are pg, what are the ages of your other children?

katierocket · 04/08/2004 12:45

don't think the monitor has got it wrong. are you saying that you didn't get any O symbol or that you did but it was on day 15? if the latter then i think you're fine. Azure is right that the sticks show 2 blue lines as indication of ovulation.
Have you looked at the persona website?

abitconfused · 04/08/2004 13:14

Thanks all for your posts. Ovulation started on day 14 according to monitor but I have just rooted for the other test sticks in the bin and they all have two lines on. Have looked at the website and it just says the usual really (not to have sex on a red day at any time because it takes into account the lifespan of the sperm etc) which is why I am starting to wonder if I might be. Also I did some reading yesterday on a fertility charting website which seemed to suggest that the kind of cm I had on day 10/11 was the most fertile sort which has also sent alarm bells ringing (BTW, I don't usually check this sort of thing but I remember quite vividly as there was loads!).

Tessiebear, I don't mind if I am pg as I am generally quite broody anyway, although we already have two children who are nearly 4 and 2. Dh might mind though as he is a born worrier . I suppose I'll have to just wait and see.

I've had this experience too - seeming mismatch between CM and OV symbol on Persona. I have no idea what it means, but if you find out do let us know.

mrsflowerpot · 04/08/2004 15:00

after a certain amount of time (couple of hours?) the sticks all show 2 lines - my persona packed in recently and I've been using the leftover sticks to see if I'm ovulating (I am ttc, not just criminally irresponsible) and I've noticed this. I think there's also something in the instructions about a time limit for inserting the sticks, so that's probably why.

smellymelly · 04/08/2004 15:43

Definitely sounds possible, as the sperm can live up to 7 days in the right (fertile) environment. As you have started again recently though, you have more red days than usual, so may be a false alarm. Also you ovulate on the 2nd day that persona show the O sign.

Thankfully you are not completely against the idea! 6 out of 100 women using persona will get pregnant, even when the are doing the deed only on the green days.

abitconfused · 04/08/2004 16:09

mrsflowerpot, thanks for posting that, why can't they just say so in the instructions I wonder?

smellymelly, I didn't know that about Persona either and I used it for quite a while (although obviously more successfully) before we stopped it to have children.

One thing is still concerning me though. Last month I had no O symbol and the month before that I did (which it says is normal) but also the amount of red days has increased slightly since my first cycle of starting to use it again. At this rate the blessed thing will be going in the bin next month whether I'm pg or not!

It sounds like it is working fine, and yes it is perfectly normal not to ovulate every month, you may have more red days this month because of not ovulating last month.

Persona is not as safe as being on the pill etc, but at least you don't have to take hormones every day. I would persevere, unless you really can't cope with the stress!
