I’m new here, hi!

I’m 23 and CLUELESS about pregnancies and all things to do with babies.

Sorry if this is TMI but I’m travelling to the Maldives in 2 and a half weeks. I’ll be gone for 3 weeks and my doctor has said that my 12 week scan will most likely be when I am on holiday hence my husband and I have decided to go for an early scan just so I can be extra cautious whilst on holiday if I am actually pregnant. (No symptoms so I’m worried I’m not).

My doctor has said I am 8 weeks pregnant from the first date of my last period which was January 21st. I checked many times on the 6th of March and I got a dark positive on all tests and a ‘3+ weeks+’ on a clear blue. IF I am pregnant then I think I’m about 4-5 weeks. Again I know absolutely nothing so I’m probably wrong.

Again, TMI but my husband and I ‘had it’ lol on the 18th, 19th and 20th of January, 9th of Feb and 13th. My ovulation date according to an app was on the 9th. I have missed a few dates because I forgot to record some days. But I wanted to know roughly how many weeks would I be as I don’t want to go for an early pregnancy scan too early and not even be able to hear the babies heartbeat that I end up worrying when I’m on holiday. I’ll be going for the scan on the 2nd of April.

Any help will be verymuch appreciated!

You go by your last period, so your doctor is more likely to be right. Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your period, even if you aren't actually pregnant until 2-3 weeks' later.

The digi with weeks is time since conception (i.e. ovulation), not your period, so it's 2-3 weeks' less than the actual weeks you're deemed to be pregnant.

Most private scans say you can go from 7-8 weeks as this is when you can usually have an abdominal scan rather than the wand version.

You'll only see the heart, not hear it, in any event.

I think you should possibly reconsider your destination due to zika, however. Speak with your your operator.

Yes, the date starts from the first day of your cycle (eg day 1 of period), so by the time your next period is due you’re already 4 weeks pregnant, even though you only conceived about two weeks previously. It’s confusing, I know!

I’m really worried about that. I tried to cancel my holiday and I’d lose out on about £10,000. I’m really confused as to what to do. I was planning on just staying inside the villa majority of the time and wearing long sleeved maxi dresses for when I go to eat instead of wasting so much money.

I just about understood that. VERY confusing lol

Have you got insurance? If the tour operator won't swap you (and they have been where people are pregnant), you should approach your insurer. What you shouldn't do is go there really.
