My dh and I have been ttc for 8 months with no luck. I have an appt booked to see a gyne but I'm wondering if there is a simple solution.

After a "evening of passion" with my dh I always go to the loo to wipe away the excess gunk!!! Gone are the teenage days where we used to share kisses on the doorstep with his "love stuff" running down my leg!!!!! TMI I think!!!!!!

Anyway, should I be leaving it there to work it's magic???

Sorry to be so literal over morning coffee

angelpoppet - you'll have to get a lot more gross than this to get any of us ttc-ersdisgusted with you!!
So here is our little solution: DON'T get up and wipe straight away. Try to lie with your bum raised a bit for a while (you must have heard about the old pilow under the bum trick, or the feet against the wall?!). Most people recommend about 20 mins of this. And to stop stray trickling, we now use the romantic solution of dh's boxers between my legs!! well, you did ask!
I usually sleep like this for the rest of the night and then have a really good shower as soon as I get up. Yukky, I know, but need's must!

Piffleoffagus · 04/08/2004 10:24

angel, me too, always straight off to the loo, my ttc mates tell me to lay there for at least 2omins
If its gross, take a handtowel and nappy yourself...
Oh god so much for romantic conceptions

angelpoppet · 04/08/2004 10:27

Thanks so much for the tip moomin - I have tried the pillow under the bum trick but as you say - always got a trickle between my bum cheeks - not a very useful place for it to be

I shall give the boxer short trick a try - dispite my dh's expected objections. All in a good cause!!!!

sigh
you get used to it!

runtus · 04/08/2004 11:16

I always lay there fretting about the state of my pillow after it has been under my bum, as I can't sleep like that I generally end up removing it and putting it back under my head!

I always make sure I wash my hair the next day too!

Can I make a suggestion?

Go to Family Planning and get a diaphrapm fitted to use to keep those buggers in place! Forget bott on pillow, harness them in without any risk of them leaving. That's what I did ttc this month: had sex THEN inserted cap and left it in post coitus for 48hrs as I am aware that they can last up to 5 days? I thought that was overdoing it abit so compromised to 2 full days and not 5. Started to wonder if I would get an infection...! But when took out cap, there was no nasty odour (sorry!).

Anyway am late but no pos preg test...yet...can't think why caps aren't sold to prevent AND aid pregnancy! Do I feel a new marketing campaign coming up to relaunch the cap???? !!!!

Angelpoppet! Not TTC (not allowed by dh, but that's another story ). When I got pg with ds, I did the pillow trick. You do get the odd dribble, but I got pg the first month. I don't recall leaving it there for a whole night, just about 10-20 minutes, and it did the trick.

ShouldKnowByFriday, wow, that's a great advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ta! But what's "family planning"???

ChicPea · 05/08/2004 12:36

The Family PLanning people is a free service in the UK where they advise you on contraception. It's called the FPA for short. You can of course see a private doctor for this if you choose.
Teodora, where do you live?

vkone · 05/08/2004 13:49

Re CAP, if you don't want to go to the trouble of an appointment (specially as your trying to get pregnant, not prevent it) Boots sell diaphrams in two sizes. Hope that helps

Moomin · 05/08/2004 14:19

they're not already impregnated (scuse the term!) with spermicide are they? I know you put spermicide on them when you're using them as a contraceptive, but are caps themselves conducive to healthy sperm? does anyone know for sure?

ShouldKnowByFriday · 05/08/2004 15:18

Vkone, I wouldn't go to the FPA and TELL them I was ttc! I would say that I wish to use another form of contraception and that the cap seems a good idea!
Re: the caps in Boots, didn't know they sold them and have no idea if they are impreg with spermicide. If they are that obviously defeats the point!
Moomin, when you say "conducive to healthy sperm", do you mean that the rubber/latex could damage the sperm? If you do, my DD who is very healthy, gorgeous, funny, in fact, so adorable, was conceived using the cap but as a contraceptive (which obviously didn't work - DH poured me too much Port!) so that negates any argument/fears you may have. I can understand your concern though. I did think to myself when I put in cap AFTER sex, what if I am trapping unworthy sperm who would fall by the wayside if this cap wasn't holding them in place?
Anyway, AF still late, will keep you posted if my ingenious idea (even if I do say so myself) works!!!!
