Hi, we have been trying to conceive for 2 years, (1year not trying but not preventing) 1 year actively trying, to no avail. Went to the docs today, he referred me for some blood tests and hubby for a sperm test. He didn’t mention anything about going for the tests on a particular day, but I’ve read blood tests should be done on certain days? Any advice? And what time scales are we looking at for the process moving forwards? Should we just go private? What are the pros/ cons/ costs?

We were having unprotected sex for 2 years then actively trying for 1 year when we went to the doctor. I was given general blood tests first I guess this is to check for any obvious issues, & partner was sent for sperm anaylisis. They both came back normal pretty quickly. Then I had to have another 2 blood tests on peticular days (can't remember exactly when in your cycle) when they came back normal we were referred to a specialist. Unfortunately I can't tell you much from that point because un beknown to me I was sitting talking to the specialist already pregnant! My daughter is nearly 9 months Smile it did seem to take a while to get to the specialist to be honest... & im not sure how long their tests take, I was booked to have my tubes checked but didn't get that far. Maybe ask your GP how long on average the process takes? & look into private as a option.. I imagine it's costly though! Good luck...!

Thank you that's a great help, and congratulations, I'm still hoping it happens naturally for us but wanted to set the wheels in motion in case it doesn't! Xx

I hope it does too. Smile I know the worry of possible infertility. But just know it's not impossible... it took us 3 years then just bam... happened, out of no where. Healthy pregnancy, healthy & happy baby... never thought it would happen to us, not this way. Could only see tests & disappoint in our future & that just wasn't the case. I think it's hard not to be negative, it's almost to protect yourself. But like us, you could begin this processs & find out you're expecting... I hope so!! Good luck on your journey SmileFlowers
